The Everscathed
The Everscathed is pretty much what their name implies... A death metal combo that has suffered a lot and continues to suffer. However, these pains and obstacles are here only to forge their will and to make them stronger. Perhaps even to inspire them...Read the interview below and find out some really interesting stuff about this band.

1. HELLO! THE BAND STARTED BACK IN 1996, BUT ONLY RECENTLY YOU HAVE RELEASED AN OFFICIAL WORK. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?
    W. Frickenstein: It's true that the very first incarnation of ENMORTEM did begin in 1996. The current line-up didn't get together until 1999. ENMORTEM did officially release a cassette EP entitled "Barbaric Displeasure" in 2000. We recorded our first album in 2002 ("Razors Of Unrest"), changed our name to THE EVERSCATHED in 2003, and then both Brice and I suffered injuries to our arms (what are the odds?) which forced us to have a lot of down time between 2003 and 2005. But now it is finally our year. And goddamnit, it's about fucking time!!!
2. WHICH, IN YOUR OPINION, ARE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT STATIONS OF THE BAND’S HISTORY? PRESENT THE CURRENT LINE – UP AND ALSO TELL US WHO WERE YOUR PREVIOUS BAND MEMBERS THAT LEFT… DO YOU KEEP CONTACT WITH THE FORMER MEMBERS OF THE BAND?
W: The band's history has yet to be written. When we changed our name from ENMORTEM to THE EVERSCATHED back in '03, it was like wiping the slate clean. We're making our history now. This is the most significant thing. What we're doing now. We're here to destroy!!! THE EVERSCATHED is: W. Frickenstein on vocals and bass, Brice Dalzell on guitars and vocals, Tim Frickenstein on drums.
3. NOT A LONG TIME AGO YOU DECIDED TO CHANGE THE BAND NAME FROM ENMORTEM TO THE EVERSCATHED. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO DO THAT? DID YOU HOPE PERHAPS THAT THIS WAY THE LUCK OF THE BAND MIGHT CHANGE?
W: Between 1996 and 2002, ENMORTEM had three different guitar players. With each guitarist came a new sound, vibe and feel to the band. Once we had Brice on board, we knew this was the direction we would continue with our music so we changed the name. The songs we were writing didn't have the same feel as the songs in the past. It was time to start fresh.
4. I WANT YOU TO CLEAR SOMETHING UP. HAVE YOU RELEASED AN OFFICIAL ALBUM WITH ENMORTEM OR NOT?
W: I wouldn't exactly call it an album. 2000's "Barbaric Displeasue" was a six-song EP. It was pro-recorded, mixed and mastered. ENMORTEM also released several demos. Most notibly: "Bleeding The Sorrow" (1997), "Their Blood I Offer The King" (1998), and "Manifestations Of Infernal Disgust" (1999).
5. ON YOUR NEW ALBUM RELEASED BY OPEN GRAVE, HAVE YOU INCLUDED ANY SONGS FROM YOUR DEMOS? IF YES, HAVE YOU CHANGED THEM AT ALL?
W: The songs "Halted Glory" and "Evil Bleeds On" were originally released on the "Barbaric Displeasure" EP. They're basically the same songs, we just re-recorded them as part of "Razors Of Unrest". Those were two of the songs that started us writing more in the direction of THE EVERSCATHED, rather than the old ENMORTEM writing styles.
6.  DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW MATERIAL READY AND IF YES, HOW DOES IT SOUND IN COMPARISON WITH YOUR PREVIOUS RELEASES?
W: Yes. We have a lot of new material. The newer stuff is catchier I think. We tend to repeat parts a little more in the new songs. Instead of each song being a musical journey from point A to point Z, the newer songs have more chorus-like parts in them. It's all still totally THE EVERSCATHED though. They're still all over the place like the song on "Razors...". That's the way we write! But I think the new stuff is a little catchier. We plan to release an EP sometime next year with a couple of new songs on it, as well as some covers and other stuff. And then another full-length the year after that. We want to get in the pattern of releasing something new every year from here on out.
7. YOU HAD SOME SERIOUS INJURY PROBLEMS, AS I SEE IN YOUR BIO, AND I THINK THAT THIS DREW YOU BACK A BIT. HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED QUITTING? I DON’T KNOW, BUT SOMEHOW, CONSIDERING ALL THESE THINGS HAPPENING TO YOU, I BELIEVE THAT THE BAND’S NAME HAS SOMETHING PROPHETIC, DON’T YOU AGREE?
W: I'm glad you put that all together!! "The Everscathed" is the title of one of our songs. It basically sums up our lives in a nutshell. We're always in pain. Whether it be physical, mental, or whatever, the three members of this band are always hurting somehow. We are always in pain. We are forever scathed. We are THE EVERSCATHED. No, quitting was never an option. When Brice nearly lost an arm in an accident at work, me and Tim continued practicing on our own, writing new material and just keeping up with everything. Slowly Brice got better and we waited for him. The thought never even crossed our minds that we should stop. You've got to roll with the punches, 'cause there's a lot more where they came from. And come they did!! When Brice was finally back rehearsing full-time with us again, I was injured at a concert, tearing the bicep muscle off the bone of my right arm. Brice and Tim did the same, rehearsed without me, worked on new shit and waited for my return. The name is not prophetic, it just explains who we are.
8. U.S. IS A COUNTRY THAT THE TRENDS RULE, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT METALCORE IS AT ITS BEST. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR MUSIC, WHICH IS OLD-FASHIONED CAN ATTRACT THE NEW METAL LISTENERS?
W: Yes. I'm glad that there's all this Metal-core shit all over. I'm not a fan at all, but it's luring people to heavier music. Once people start listening to heavy music, they're going to want something heavier, and heavier, and that's where we come in. It can only help! And I don't care what anybody says, I think it's fucking cool that I can go to the fucking mall and buy a spiked wrist band and an Iced Earth t-shirt. I'm happy when I turn on MTV2 and I'm able to watch an Arch Enemy video, or a Manowar video, or a Mastodon video (even though they DO play A LOT of bullshit in between)!!!! It's been a looooong time since I've been able to buy Metal shit "at a store near you". And I don't really consider our style "old-fashioned". It's in the old style, but it's not like everyone stopped playing this kind of music and now we're trying to bring it back. This kind of music has never gone away. Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Morbid Angel. They're still playing the same way they played 10-15 years ago. It's still death metal. Grave, Amon Amarth, Dismember. This stuff hasn't gone anywhere. And it's not going to!!! There's always going to be a mass of people that crave something heavier.
9. ALSO ONE OF YOU WAS A MEMBER OF THE BAND CORPSEVOMIT. CAN YOU GIVE US SOME INFO ABOUT IT AND TELL US WHY HE LEFT?
W: Brice played bass for CORPSEVOMIT for many years before he joined us. His reasons for leaving are between him and them. All I know is that there's no bad blood. We're all still friends with all of those guys and always will be.
10. WILL YOU PLAY ANY LIVE SHOWS? IS THERE SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU WHILE YOU WERE PLAYING LIVE AND YOU WON’T FORGET?
W: Oh yes!! We always look forward to playing live. That's why you join or form a band. To make music and play live!! I would one day love to tour the world. I have yet to see most of this world and I want music to be the reason I see it. Of course when playing out you're going to have your "Spinal Tap" moments. Nothing too outrageous though......yet.
11. NOW, WHO WRITES THE LYRICS? WHAT KIND OF THEMES INSPIRE YOU TO WRITE ABOUT? HOW IMPORTANT ARE THE LYRICS FOR YOU?
W: Whenever I write a song, I write all of the lyrics. When Brice writes a song, he writes all of the lyrics. I sing the songs I write and Brice sings the songs he writes. The lyrics are very important to us. Very important. All kinds of things inspire the lyrics. Movies, stories. These days, it's mostly all real life experiences that are fueling the lyrics. As we discussed before, we always have something going on in our lives that we can draw our inspiration from.
12.  IMAGINE THAT YOUR MUSIC IS A MOVIE SOUNDTRACK. WHAT KIND OF MOVIE WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BE AND WHY?
W: I think it would fall under the category of Horror. And there'd be a little sticker on the box that reads "based on true events".
13. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME! GOOD LUCK WITH THE NEW START OF THE BAND. THE LAST LINES ARE YOURS…
