Man Army & The Undead Quartet
One Man Army has unleashed
upon us, a couple of months ago, their debut musical assault that aims
to reign and conquer in the extreme metal scene and the band surely deserves
a place amongst the elite death/thrash metal bands. Their music is magnificent,
heavy and ferocious but beware cause it takes no prisoners!!!
1. FIRST OF ALL CONGRATULATIONS ON “21ST CENTURY
KILLING MACHINE”! HOW DO YOU FEEL NOW THAT SOME TIME HAS PASSED SINCE ITS
RECORDING? ARE YOU CONTENT WITH THE FINAL RESULT?
Yeah, I`m really satisfied. It really became
heavier tan I ever could have imagined. People really seem to enjoy it
so things couldn`t be better.
2. IF YOU WERE ASKED TO WRITE A REVIEW OF “21ST
CENTURY KILLING MACHINE” WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TRYING TO BE AS OBJECTIVE AS
POSSIBLE?
Well, I think that this album has a heaviness
and power that not many new albums have. Some of the elements can be improved
of course but as a newcomer this is a powerful effort in trying to shake
the big league around.
3. WHAT’S THE BEST AND WHAT’S THE WORST PART OF
YOUR MUSIC, ACCORDING TO YOU? ARE THERE ANY ELEMENTS YOU’D LIKE TO ADD
OR EXPERIMENT WITH IN THE FUTURE?
The things I love the most are the catchy,
groovy elements that do most of the "Army" sound. The worst thing, which
I actually don`t wanna call the worst thing is the fast elements. Not bad
in any way but not that strong as the heavy stuff. Now at this moment I
actually don`t know what we will do with the next one but it will include
the same strength but with a better finishing touch.
4. WHAT DO YOU MEAN WITH THIS TITLE? IS ONE MAN
ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET THIS KILLING MACHINE YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT OR
HAS IT GOT A DEEPER MEANING?
Yeah, we are the band of the future, the new
force that will crush everything in our way.
5. TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE LYRICAL PART
OF YOUR DEBUT ALBUM. WHICH ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION?
My sources come mostly from things that have
been experienced in the past but I also put in some fantasy in there. You
can say that it`s a mixture of fiction and reality.
6. NOWADAYS SOCIETY GOES FROM BAD TO WORSE, SO
I FIND PERFECTLY NATURAL AND JUSTIFIABLE JOHAN’S INTERPRETATION. HOWEVER,
I’M ALWAYS CURIOUS TO FIND OUT WHAT YOU ARE THINKING OR FEELING THE MOMENT
YOU WRITE MUSIC OR PERFORM IT. WHERE DOES ALL THIS ENERGY COME FROM?
I don`t really know how I feel when I write
my music cause I don`t do it that often:-). It just comes to me. I`m not
a guitar player so I only pick up my guitar when I have some cool ideas
in my head or I feel very excited to start writing. I mean, I haven`t played
anything since I wrote the songs fot the debut album but now it`s time
to start working again, hehe. To perform the music live is another thing.
Then you already have the songs. You just need to bring forth that strength
and energy from the album and put it on a good energized live show. Don`t
really know where the energy is coming from. It`s just a natural thing
for us.
7. HAVE YOU GOT ANY FUTURE PLANS? DO YOU HAVE
ANY PLANS FOR A TOUR? WHAT SHOULD THE FANS EXPECT TO SEE WHEN THEY COME
TO YOUR SHOWS?
Well, we`ve been out with Children of Bodom
now for 7 weeks and we will head out for another European tour with Hupocrisy,
Soilwork, Amorphis and Scar Symmetry called The Neckbreakers Ball tour.
It will take place in April. When people watch us perform they see a happy
and sweaty gang giving 110%.
8. IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT
BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
If it were an emotion it would be aggression
and a painting would be showing my dog Lee-Zack tearing some asshole to
pieces.
9. WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW
TO HAVE? A TITLE SUITABLE FOR ALL THAT ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET
STANDS FOR…
"All hail the Army-The dead alive". It basically
tells you that you should support this band by any means cause it`s a force
to be reckoned with and we will never quit showing the world what real
power is all about.
10. BY THE WAY, HOW DID YOU CHOOSE THIS NAME?
DOES JOHAN WANT TO SUGGEST THAT THIS IS HIS BAND, THUS ONE MAN ARMY, AND
THE REST 4 MEMBERS COMPRISE THIS UNDEAD QUARTET?
The bandname is an inspiration from the 60`s
rockbands, Rambo and George A. Romero:-). What a mixture, haha. I really
like the theme when you have different names on frontman and rhythm section
but that doesn`t mean that the other members are less important. This is
a band of 5 equal individuals.
11. WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE IMPIOUS, AUBERON, PERSUADER
AND RECLUSION CAMPS? DO YOU FIND TIME FOR ALL BANDS? HOW DO YOU “KNOW”
WHICH SONG, RIFFS OR THEMES SUIT EACH BAND BEST?
Well, Auberon doesn`t exist anymore and Pekka
has left Persuader a long time ago. Valle has also left us so Impious doesn`t
affect us anymore. The thing is that I`ve written most of the stuff so
far and sometimes the other guys come up with songs. The songwriting process
will be more split up in the future. But I mean, Marek doesn`t write songs
in Army and Mikaes doing some rock music with Blackbush, very different
to Army so things are not coming in between.
