Northern
Breeze
Northern Breeze is a very
interesting Greek band that is worth our attention since they manage to
deliver well played extreme music. Having just released their new album
"Sailing To The North" we thought it'd be nice to ask them a few questions
concerning the band's past, present and future state...
1. HELLO! FIRST OF ALL TELL US YOUR NEWS.
WHAT HAPPENED FROM THE RELEASE OF YOUR LAST DEMO TILL NOW?
Hi Niko! First of all, thanks for the interest
and support to our band. Our current news is that a label called NoneMoreBlackRecords
is interested in releasing our album from the next year while at the moment
we will start rehearsing with session musicians. Our previous demo-CD had
a great response and we hope the same for our album. We work on new tracks
and we will try to find an opportunity to perform live.
2. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RELEASE A FULL-LENGTH
INSTEAD OF ANOTHER DEMO? DO YOU THINK THAT THIS WAY YOU MIGHT ATTRACT MORE
EFFECTIVELY THE ATTENTION OF THE LABELS?
The main reason for choosing to release a
full length was that we wanted to have a more professional approach for
our music and something more representative as far as the quality and quantity
are concerned. Finding a label isn’t a priority for us and never was but
since someone will be interested it is a good way to make our music more
popular while the most important for us is that it is a kind of recognition.
3. ALTHOUGH YOU ARE FROM THE SOUTH PART OF GREECE
YOU NAMED YOUR ALBUM “SAILING TO THE NORTH”. WHICH IS THE MEANING OF THE
TITLE AND HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH IT?
We are south according to your location that
is a city that I adore and often visit. If you watch carefully the Hellenic
map we are right in the center of our country and we have all the seasons
with their special characteristics and even cold winter and snow, so we
aren’t so unfamiliar to winter. The story about the title has to do with
the fact that we had everything ready (music, layout, etc.) but I was racking
my brain in order to find a title for the album until I had a vision in
which I saw a boat (drakkar probably) floating in the picture of our front
cover so I thought about “Sailing to the North”. It sounds a bit epic but
this is the truth and it doesn’t mean something special.
4. CAN YOU TELL US WHICH SONG FROM THOSE THAT
YOU HAVE INCLUDED IN YOUR NEW ALBUM TOOK YOU MORE TIME TO COMPLETE AND
WHICH ONE CAME UP EASILY AND WHY?
More or less all the songs came the same way.
Since the inspiration comes, everything else comes easily. If I remember
correctly I could say that the “Field Where I Died” came at once while
“Father of All Times” needed some extra work on the vocal section mostly.
5. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED UNDER WHICH CIRCUMSTANCES
YOU BECOME MORE CREATIVE AS MUSICIANS?
Well, both of us try to work hard and practice
with Vag studying in a more professional level. Our intension is to improve
our skills in order to achieve the best reflection of our emotions into
our music. I don’t know how creative we are but I believe that everything
comes by practicing, patience and learning from mistakes.
6. IS THERE A QUESTION THAT YOU’D LIKE TO BE ASKED
IN AN INTERVIEW BUT THEY NEVER DID? IF YES, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE…
I would like to be asked if I am straight
or gay while another good question would be which is my fetish. The answers
to these questions are that I am straight and I love ass licking and then
anal penetration. Thank you for asking myself (hahahahahahahaha…………………………….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
7. ARE THERE ANY LYRICS THAT WHEN YOU READ THEM,
YOU THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE WRITTEN FOR YOU? IF YES CAN YOU TELL US WHICH
SONG WAS THAT?
I have found myself countless times to coincide
with lyrics but it depends on the feelings that I have in the particular
moment. The lyrics that express me generally are the lines from the “In
A Dream” (TIAMAT) track and some of them are: In a dream I’m climbing the
clouds. I touch a subdue sky with my bare hands. In a dream let me drag
you through my world….
8. IN AN EMAIL CONTACT THAT WE HAD, YOU TOLD ME
THAT YOU HAVE RE - MASTERED YOUR NEW CD. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?
We decided to make a new mastering with a
person who is more of an expert and that was Giorgos Mpokos. I did the
first mastering but I am not as experienced as it is needed. Now the album
has a louder and clearer sound without losing its underground feeling.
9. WHICH ARE THE CLICHÉS OF HEAVY METAL
MUSIC THAT YOU LIKE AND DISLIKE AND WHY?
I totally dislike the fake “evil” attitude
and the “sex, drugs and rock’n’roll” saying because for me music is something
deeper and not a way to demonstrate myself. Think about how many people
in this music believe that they are somebody with someone else’s music.
They are wearing a Darkthrone T-shirt for example and believe that they
are “evil” without trying to help this music actively. I like hearing metal
and drinking alcohol but I can’t stand those faces that want to show they
know each track that is being played in a club when at the same time they
have never sacrificed a penny in order to offer something to this music.
Maybe the sex part is the best cliché (hahahahahah……….)
10. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME! SEND YOUR GREETINGS
TO WHOEVER YOU WANT…
Niko, I want to thank you for this nice conversation.
Greetings to all the people who support underground and especially: The
Bloodcult’zine, Metal-Legacy webzine, Paul and NoneMoreBlackRecords, Divinity
Records & Dawn of Division, Sarvari and a bunch of other bands. Take
care!
