Necro
Necro is a pioneering band that tries to mix or actually I'd better say bring closer metal music with hiphop. I know this might sound a bit strange to some, but I also know that there are many people out there open to experimentations. I think you should start your musical journey by first reading this very interesting and highly informative interview and then check Necro's music out...

1. I READ ON YOUR SITE THAT YOU HAVE RELEASED THE ALBUM "THE PRE-FIX FOR DEATH". SO TELL US FEW THINGS ABOUT IT. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO COMPLETE IT? IS IT 100% A HIP HOP ALBUM OR HAVE YOU ADDED METAL ELEMENTS AS WELL?
I wokred on it for 2 months lyrically I'd say and I made the beats, a lot of them like a year before, I had most of the beats made a year before there is a lot of hiphop on it and some metal hiphop tracks, I worked with a lot of metal legends like Obituary, Voivod, Nuclear Assault, Slipknot, Hatebreed, so it's got its metal element in it but it also has straight hiphop all through it.
2. YOU STARTED AS A HIP HOP MUSICIAN. WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR "LOVE" FOR HEAVY METAL MUSIC?
I started doing metal first actually at like 10, I was a young prodigy on guitar, I was opening for Sepultura, Napalm Death, a lot of bands that came through Brooklyn at lamours. My band would open and I was like 11 at the time.
3. MANY PEOPLE THINK THAT HIP HOP AND METAL MUSIC HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON. YOU, THOUGH, ARE ACTIVE IN BOTH KINDS OF MUSIC. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? IS THERE SOMETHING COMMON IN THESE 2 GENRES?
There is a lot that is common, the struggle, the anger, the passion, the rebellion, the underground, they are more alike than not, it's just a lot of people from both genres are closeminded. I guess I am more openminded than most. I just love both, it's like loving pizza and hamburgers, both are good, but some people will only like one.
4. HERE IN GREECE AND IN EUROPE IN GENERAL WE HAVE THE IMAGE THAT HIP HOP/RAP IS BLACK PEOPLE'S MUSIC AND THAT WHITE PEOPLE ARE NOT ACCEPTED. DID YOU EVER HAVE SUCH A PROBLEM?
Yeah hiphop is very racist toward me. It's sad that in Greece people think this, very sad...
5. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR MUSIC CAN FUNCTION AS A BRIDGE AND BRING METAL AND HIP HOP FANS IN TOUCH?
I hope so, in the end I make music for me, I make shit I like and I always experiment. If people don't wanna like it fuck them, I am only concerned about people that like my music the fans and they love my music.
6. YOU HAVE COOPERATED WITH MANY WELL KNOWN NAMES OF THE METAL SCENE. WHO CAME CLOSER TO YOU AND WAS MORE COOPERATIVE?
Everyone was cool, each person has their own personality, all cool.
7. LET'S TALK A BIT ABOUT YOUR EX- DEATH METAL BAND INJUSTICE. WHEN HAVE YOU CREATED THE BAND? AND WHAT YOU ACHIEVED WITH THE BAND?
It was created in '86 I think, just us kids playing shit garage style, small time and we kept getting better and then got into magazines and made demos and shirts and it had me on stage at 11 years old playing with heavy weights so it was an experience. That's for sure!
8. GREAT NEWS FOR THE SEPULTURA FANS IS THAT YOU COOPERATE WITH IGOR CAVALERA IN A NEW THRASH METAL BAND. WHEN SHOULD WE WAIT FOR YOUR RELEASE? WILL THE BAND SOUND CLOSE TO SEPULTURA OR WILL IT BE DIFFERENT?
I don't think this band will happen now as Igor is very busy with being a DJ, he does hiphop techno electronic shit and seems to be really focused on it, and I am very concerned about my Necro 2007 record, so it's all good. Maybe in the future, maybe not...
9. SINCE YOU COOPERATE WITH IGOR, DO YOU KNOW WHICH THE REAL REASONS THAT MADE IGOR LEAVE SEPULTURA (THE BAND HE CREATED) WERE?
He told me he was bored, tired of not selling units and doing the same shit over and over, he wants new things and he loves hiphop so he has the hiphop bug like I had it when I was 14.
10. THERE IS A RUMOR IN THE METAL COMMUNITY THAT BOTH MAX AND IGOR WILL RETURN TO SEPULTURA. DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT?
Yeah I heard about it, good luck to them, if they do it, they should make beneath the remains part 2!!!!!
11. I HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE TO YOU THE FACT THAT YOU ARE A VERY BUSY MAN! YOU ALSO RUN A LABEL. HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO DO ALL THESE THINGS? DO YOU EVER HAVE SOME FREE TIME TO RELAX?
I am committed to my shit so I do everything needed to get me to where I need to be, but I got a lot of people working for me.
12. WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU RELEASE THROUGH YOUR LABEL? WHICH ARE THE BIGGEST OBSTACLES THAT AN UNDERGROUND RECORD LABEL HAS TO SURPASS IN ORDER TO SURVIVE?
I release hardcore hiphop, death rap, porn rap and metal hiphop, you have to go through hell, hardwork, years of paying dues.
13. ON PREFIX YOU HAVE COOPERATED FOR THE COVER WITH THE WELL KNOWN ED REPKA. HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO DO THAT? DID HE LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC IN ORDER TO CREATE THE COVER?
He didn't hear the music but he knew the concept, and I did send him previous CDs. He was cool, I located him because I am like a private investigator. I find lost corpses.
14. IMAGINE THAT YOUR MUSIC IS A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW? AND IF IT WAS EMOTIONS WHAT KIND OF EMOTIONS WOULD IT BE?
If my music was a painting it would be painted in human blood and it would be an Edward J Repka painting, it would show pain, anger, love and death all in one.
15. DO YOU REMEMBER THE WEIRDEST OR THE FUNNIEST QUESTION THAT THEY HAVE EVER ASKED YOU? CAN YOU SHARE IT WITH US?
It's all funny, life is funny, the music business is funny.
16. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME! GOOD LUCK WITH ALL OF YOUR PROJECTS. THE LAST LINES BELONG TO YOU AND LEAVE A MESSAGE TO THE READERS OF BEHIND THE VEIL WEBZINE…
