MXD
Recently MXD released their
newest album through Equilibrium Music and we took the chance to interview
them. I can assure you that this was the funniest interview I have ever
done. Just read the text and you will understand.
1. Hi guys! First of all congratulations
on your latest album!
Thanx! and thanx for the interview as well!
2. Please give us a short bio on the history
of MXD.
The band began in 1998 as a trio without vocals,
two machine guys (Solex and Alex) and a guitarist(Oli), and Electrolab
inc. was our first album. I joined the band in 1999 as a vocalist and we
released "doping the beat" one year later. After few dark experiments in
our lab in Vallorbe(near Lausanne, Switzerland), we found the magic recipe
with "musicogenic" which kicked some asses in 2002, an album that EQuilibreMusic
in Paris re-released in 2004.That year, Oli decided to leave the band and
Drop(Sybreed guitarist) jumped in the cockpit. In autumn "Frustration Is
Fuel" the fourth album came out. 2006 depends on you!
3. Why did you choose these three letters for
your name?
It's the other name of god when he's drunk...
4. Tell us some details about the recording
sessions of your newest album "Frustration is Fuel".
We did it in Drop's parent flat. So we recorded
the noisy songs the afternoon and the "sweetest" ones at night cause of
the neighborhood! Drop recorded it in Geneva At the drone studio, he mixed
it with Solex and it was mastered in New York by Howie Weinberg, well-known
for his work for Rammstein, Beastie Boays or Radiohead! Paradoxes, don’t
you think?
5. Can we hear some differences between your
previous and this release?
I hope so! But we have kept some ideas of
building good songs...I think frustration is fuel is as original as Musicogenic
but more compact, dark, aggressive and poetic!
6. So far you have released four albums. Did
you ever think back in the late 90s of the musical direction you’d eventually
take?
We knew that we will do something, but we
didn't know what exactly...it's a rock 'n' roll attitude, isn't it? One
thing was sure, we wanted to mix the kind of music we wanted and keep on
doing free stuff.. No compromise! But it's good and important to be surprised
by yourself when you play and create music!
7. How do you describe the music that you create?
Do you believe that you have elements from Rammstein?
I don't think so. Rammstein's music is not
so original, but the band sings in German, that's the originality of Rammstein.
Musically talking, I like them but I think they repeat themselves now.
However we did a cover of Rammstein on our new album. A cover of a Rammstein's
song that doesn't exist...and that's very original!
8. Tell me your influences as a musician.
10 influences, okay? In subjective order:
The Young Gods, Iron Maiden, Gun's ‘n’ Roses, Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode,
The Cult, Faith No More, Mindfunk, RATM, Sisters of Mercy...
9. Will you support this release with some
live shows in the near future?
Of course, Switzerland first, than the world!
Hey Greek clubs, if you want us, don't hesitate to contact us, we only
come for ouzo and hotgirls (it's a cliché, but it's so good)!
10. How do you see the musical scene in your
country?
Very good… better than yours!(I'm kidding)....listen
to bands like The young Gods, BAK XIII Sybreed, Samael, PMT, Fanoe, Favez,
shora, brazen, knut, elkee, unfold, undergod, treekillaz, rosqo, forceed,
kruger, sludge, watykan and so on...
11. And your wildest dream about MXD?
Be fucked by a goat on Mykonos! No, seriously
I 'd like to do a big tour, but alone, cause we hate to share the backstage
with the other bands...they never have enough drugs and we always have
it share ours with them...boring!
12. Thank you for your time and close the interview
as you want.
