Morbid
Sacrifice
Morbid Sacrifice - The
Christian band, the devil hates... and they couldn't care less!!! That's
the title the band suggested, so you instantly get the main points. The
moniker indicates a brutal death metal sound and the rest of the sentence
reveals a band with a Christian religious background. So if you want to
find out how Deicide would sound if they were Christians, then your search
is finally over!
1. CONGRATULATIONS ON “SEVERED DEATH”! MANY
YEARS HAVE PASSED SINCE IT WAS WRITTEN AND RECORDED SO YOU CAN BE QUITE
OBJECTIVE WITH IT. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT? ARE YOU CONTENT WITH THE
FINAL RESULT?
Every member had there own hopes, dreams,
and influences put into the album. This album was going to be strictly
a demo CD, but since we broke up and not playing as a band any more – why
not just make it a pure album.
2. WELL MANY BANDS, EVEN GOOD ONES FACE PROBLEMS
AND CAN’T SIGN A DECENT DEAL WITH A RECORD LABEL OR THEY SIGN AND GET DESTROYED.
HOWEVER, THE WEIRD THING IN YOUR CASE IS THAT YOU SIGNED A DEAL YEARS AFTER
YOU DISBANDED. DO YOU WANT TO TELL US THE STORY BEHIND IT?
What!!! You’re probably right!!! Anyways,
our goal was to make some nasty music with a true message. It doesn’t matter
how the message gets out – just as long as it gets out. God works in mysterious
ways – he obviously wanted the album out now – so here it is. As for the
process and the reasons of how the album got out; you’ll have to talk to
James at Open Grave Records.
3. TELL US IN BRIEF THE HISTORY OF MORBID SACRIFICE
AND YOUR MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS.
In brief; Chris and I meet at a Sardonyx concert
in Lewistown PA. I believe that he got saved there, but that you’ll have
to ask him. We started going to the same youth church – Church of the new
covenant in Lewistown PA. We wanted to start a Christian metal band, had
our own ideas, and compromised toward the sound of the band. He wanted
an Iron Maiden type of band and I wanted a Deicide type of band, so we
worked together to find a type of sound that we both would agree on – hence
“Morbid Sacrifice”. The hardest part of the band was to find a drummer
to keep up with the sound that we were looking for. To make a loooong story
short we went through a lot of drummer till we (or I) found Tom – and that
is a story in itself.
4. HAS THE RELEASE OF “SEVERED DEATH”, MADE YOU
THINK AGAIN OF REUNITING OR NOT?
No – there’s too much on all of our plates
at the recent time. Only God knows the future.
5. ARE YOU INVOLVED IN OTHER BANDS? IF YES,
PLEASE GIVE US INFORMATION ON THEM AND THEIR SOUND.
I started a punk band called Anti-Hell Society,
which, is in the vain of ol’ Misfits, GBS, and Exploited. It was designed
to piss most people off with a Christian message and did a wonderful at
doing so. Anti-Hell Society is a very looong story in its own right, so
I won’t go into any details about that. At the present time I am not in
any band.
6. LET’S SUPPOSE THAT YOU WERE ASKED TO WRITE
A REVIEW FOR “SEVERED DEATH”. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TRYING TO BE AS OBJECTIVE
AS POSSIBLE?
Nice try – awesome lyrics – keep rockin!!!
7. YOU PLAY BRUTAL DEATH METAL, HOWEVER YOU HAVE
QUITE MANY CLASSIC HEAVY METAL RIFFS IN YOUR SOUND. DO YOU AGREE? COULD
YOU PLEASE NAME SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED BANDS AND ALBUM?
Most classic metal sounds had to come from
Chris’s brain. My beloved bands are Old Crimson Thorn, Disencumberance,
Oblation, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, Cannibal Corpse, and many others.
8. WHAT’S THE BEST AND WHAT’S THE WORST PART OF
YOUR MUSIC, ACCORDING TO YOU?
The songs that I wrote are the best part of
my music – according to me that is.
9. TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE TOPICS “SEVERED
DEATH” DEALS WITH. IS IT ALL ABOUT BRUTAL AND GORE STORIES OR IS THERE
ANYTHING DEEPER TO IT?
Severed Death is about salvation. Those who
receive salvation are severed from death altogether. Of course the flesh
will die, but the soul will live eternally.
10. I KNOW THAT YOU HAVE DISBANDED, BUT WILL YOU
DO ANY LIVE SHOWS IN ORDER TO SUPPORT THIS RELEASE?
Probably not – Tom’s going on to play with
Royal Anguish and who knows what the other guys are doing.
11. WHAT MADE YOU SIGN NOW A DEAL WITH OPEN GRAVE
RECORDS? WHAT DID YOU FIND IN THEM THAT YOU COULDN’T FIND IN OTHER LABELS
IN THE PAST?
James from Open Grave Records contacted us
for the deal – he’s known us from the beginning of Morbid Sacrifice, and
always liked our stuff.
12. ONE MORE THING… DOES OPEN GRAVE RECORDS HAVE
A DECENT DISTRIBUTION? I’M ASKING SINCE THIS IS A NEW LABEL. ANYWAY WHAT
SHOULD PEOPLE DO IN ORDER TO GET A COPY OF YOUR CD?
Open Grave Records is an awesome label. They
do everything they can to do to be the best, just go to www.opengraverecords.com
and click.
13. COULD YOU PLEASE DESCRIBE THE ALBUM’S COVER
ARTWORK, FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN’T SEEN IT YET?
The real cover you’ll find at www.morbidsacrifice.com
the one on the album is a friendlier cover. Buy the album and find out
were and why the cover was chosen for this album.
14. IF YOUR MUSIC, WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD
IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
Righteous anger - blood on canvas – judgment.
15. LET’S SUPPOSE THAT YOU HAD A BIG BUDGET TO
SHOOT A VIDEO CLIP. WHICH SONG OF YOURS WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND HOW DO YOU
IMAGINE IT TO BE?
Humping the Dead – it would be spastic – full
of stupid things that Satanists do and expose them for who they really
are – scared little children, lost in their own mental torments.
16. WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO
HAVE? THE EPILOGUE OF MORBID SACRIFICE THAT WOULD SUM UP THE WHOLE ESSENCE
AROUND YOUR SOUND?
Morbid Sacrifice – The Christian band the
devil hates, and they couldn’t care less!!! Or – Morbid Sacrifice: gore
with a message. What ever you want is fine with me.
17. THANK YOU! IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE
TO MENTION AND I FORGOT TO ASK YOU? LEAVE YOUR MESSAGE…
Confess with your mouth – believe in your
heart that Jesus Christ is God and you are saved!!!!!!!
