Lost Detour
Lost Detour is a relatively young band who has set off to make its first steps in the demography and actually they've managed with only 2 demos to magentize us and earn our respect and support. If you are into melancholic and atmospheric music filled with emotions and thoughts, then "Painted Veil" is the answer to your question...

1.FIRST OF ALL, GIVE US A SHORT BAND BIO AND INTRODUCE YOURSELVES TO THE READERS?
Hello there! We are Lost Detour from Finland, and that we have been since the year 2003. In 2004 we released our first three-song demo 'Cause and Effect', and now in the beginning of 2006 we have finally finished the second one, 'Painted Veil'. The music is some kind of progish mixture of different styles, built on a base of melodic metal.
2.LET'S SUPPOSE THAT YOU WERE ASKED TO REVIEW YOUR DEMO CD "PAINTED VEIL". WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TRYING TO BE AS OBJECTIVE AS POSSIBLE?
That's a tough one... I really can't think objectively about it at all... Bad answer... Sorry... but a good question though :)
3.WHICH ARE THE DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES BETWEEN "CAUSE AND EFFECT" AND "PAINTED VEIL"? HAVE YOU REALIZED A MUSICAL EVOLUTION?
I guess the feel is pretty close to each other, but 'Cause and Effect' really was just a sort of 'test run', and 'Painted Veil' is the stuff itself. So yes, there has been a big leap from the first release in every aspect.
4.HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC TO SOMEONE THAT HASN'T LISTENED TO YOU YET? GIVE REASONS WHY THE METALLERS SHOULD CHECK YOU OUT?
That's always a hard thing to do, but we have used to say something like I did in the first question. Maybe prog-metal would describe it, but that could also lead very wrong (fast, high-pitched and leather pants), so how about 'melodic mood-shifting progrockmetal'? Nah, 'music' is just fine. If you are into metal and like melancholic melodies, you should check out Lost Detour.
5.YOUR SOUND IS WEIRD INDEED AND I'D SAY THAT YOU HAVE MANAGED TO CREATE A QUITE ORIGINAL AND CHARACTERISTIC SOUND. SO, COULD YOU MENTION SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED BANDS AND GREATEST INFLUENCES?
Well thanks! We don't particularly try to be weird and original, we just make the music to our own liking. Weird people, weird music... Maybe one of the strongest and longest lasting favorites for most of us is, as in so many reviews correctly pointed out :), Opeth. To name something else spinning in my player nowadays, I would have to say Arena, Pain of Salvation, Porcupine Tree, Kansas, Dream Theater, Spock's Beard, Pallas, Riverside, Threshold, A.C.T, Indukti, etc.. Also the 'crazy' youth with Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth, etc., and the following Thrash-hangover with Swedish melodeath scene has left its marks :). But that's only my perspective of the influences, as the other members have their own.
6.WHAT'S ACCORDING TO YOU THE BEST AND WHAT'S THE WORST PART OF YOUR MUSIC? ARE THERE ANY ELEMENTS YOU'D LIKE TO ADD OR EXPERIMENT WITH IN YOUR MUSIC? HAVE YOU SENT YOUR DEMO TO ANY LABELS? ARE YOU UNDER NEGOTIATION WITH ANY LABEL? WITH WHAT CRITERIA WILL YOU SIGN A DEAL?
In our vision the perfect album is a musical journey with twists and turns, that travels fluidly from the beginning to the end, and it must not bore the listener at any point. Lyrics and music should support each other; music painting the feeling and atmosphere of the lyrics, and the other way around.
Demo release's limits don't really support this kind of concept, so we've decided that our next release will be a full-lenght album. We have started working on the new material, and searching for a label to release our future debut album. This might not be easy, but making another demo is just not the thing for us.
7.TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE LYRICS. WHICH ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION AND WHICH ARE THE TOPICS YOU MAINLY DEAL WITH?
I like the lyrics not to reveal everything straigth away, but to leave things for the listeners to figure out themselves. I always kind of think of lyrics as a movie, so maybe some of the influences come from that direction, David Lynch for example...
8.WHAT KIND OF FEEDBACK HAVE YOU RECEIVED SO FAR FROM THE PRESS AND THE METALLERS? ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THE COMMENTS YOU RECEIVE?
The feedback has been absolutely fantastic for both demos. It's really great to hear that some people get something out of our music. Every comment is appreciated, negative or positive.
9.OK! TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE COVER ARTWORK. I THINK IT'S QUITE ABSTRACT. DOES IT SHOW SOMETHING I CAN'T SEE? WHO CREATED IT?
If you stare at it long enough, you will see the bird phoenix rise from the ashes and fly far away to the horizon, or not. It's pure nonsense by LD.
10.HAVE YOU GOT ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? WHAT SHOULD THE FANS EXPECT TO SEE FROM YOU?
Most probably at some point we will be doing live shows, but for now our focus is on the recorded stuff. A live show should be a bit different point of view to the music on CD, a more aggressive way of expression maybe, still creating similar atmosphere.
11.LET'S SUPPOSE THAT YOU HAD A BIG BUDGET TO SHOOT A VIDEO CLIP. WHICH SONG WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND HOW DO YOU IMAGINE IT TO BE?
Maybe I wouldn't choose any of the current songs, but if there were no limits and the ordinary music video standards,  I've always been wondering how would it be to have a kind of background video for an album. Something that would go along with the music and the lyrics from the beginning to the end, something not too concrete but not totally abstract either. Like normally you have background music for a movie, but to have a background movie for the music.
12.IF YOUR MUSIC WERE AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE? IF IT WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
Damn, where do you get these questions? :)  Umh, well, I guess the music should generate a feeling of energiness and well-being, so how about Enthusiasm. If it were a painting, it would probably be one of those you can see many different images in it, depending on how you look at it.
13.WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO HAVE?
    Weird people, weird music?
14.THANK YOU! HAVE I FORGOTTEN TO ASK YOU ANYTHING YOU?D LIKE TO MENTION?
I think that was more than enough. If we'd go any further, we would probably be pondering about where do rainbows end. Thanks to you for this interview and greetings to all the readers; if you haven't yet, go and download our music at www.lostdetour.com, and while listening, maybe drop a line or two in our guest book! Bye...
