Implosion is a newcoming
metal act from Greece that delivers some fine and extremely beautiful progressive
compositions. If you are fans of this genre, then Implosion is a band you
definitely have to listen to and support! So, read below what Alex, the
band's guitars, told us...
1. HELLO ALEX! SO FAR THINGS SEEM TO GO GREAT
FOR IMPLOSION. DID YOU EXPECT SUCH A RESPONSE WHEN YOU RELEASED YOUR DEMO?
Hello again Nick! Sure things go great as
the demo has received some very good reviews! I can say that we have sent
about 40 demos and this is just 2 months after we released it. We were
confident about the demo, but we didn’t expect so many good reviews!
2. EXCEPT FOR GREECE DID YOU RECEIVE GOOD COMMENTS
FROM ABROAD AS WELL? WHICH IS THE BEST COMMENT THAT YOU RECEIVED AND YOU
REMEMBER?
We haven’t sent the demo abroad yet. We are
very busy at the moment trying to promote it here. The best review is probably
the review on Metal Hammer magazine, where we got an 8.5/10 on the biggest
selling metal magazine of the country.
3. NOW, I WON’T ASK YOU ABOUT YOUR BIO, BUT I
WANT YOU TO TELL ME, HOW LONG IT GOT YOU TO FORM THE CURRENT LINE-UP OF
THE BAND. CAN YOU PRESENT US THE MUSICIANS AND TELL US IN WHICH BANDS THEY
HAVE PLAYED BEFORE?
We play together for about 5 years. We had
some changes in our line-up since then. The current line up is: Chris Fotiadis
(vocals, ex-Crusador,ex-Shattered Reality), Alex Papoulidis (guitars, ex-Zelimir),
Tasos Korkovellos (ex-Shattered Reality), Kostas Anagnostou (drums, ex-Zelimir)
and our new bass player, Argiris Tsagalidis. The bass player on the demo
is Pericles Hamalidis.
4. ONE OTHER THING THAT IS VERY IMPRESSIVE IS
THAT YOU PRODUCED THE DEMO WITHOUT HAVING MUCH KNOWLEDGE ABOUT IT, HOWEVER
THE RESULT TURNED OUT TO BE FINE. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO PRODUCE IT?
WHY DIDN’T YOU CHOOSE TO COLLABORATE WITH A PROFESSIONAL PRODUCER?
Thank you very much for the kind words. It
took about 2 months to complete the production of the demo. We thought
it was a challenge to try and depend on ourselves on the production issue.
We also learned very much about how a band should sound, and did the best
we could.
5. THE BAND’S NAME IS IMPLOSION. HOW DID YOU CHOOSE
THE NAME AND CAN WE SAY THAT IT DESCRIBES IN A WAY YOUR SOUND AND YOU AS
PERSONS?
We thought it is a cool band name, with much
aggressiveness, but not too much.
6. LET’S SAY THAT A PERSON WHO HASN’T LISTENED
TO YOUR MUSIC ASKS YOU TO DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN A FEW WORDS. HOW WOULD
YOU DESCRIBE IT? WHICH BANDS AND MUSICIANS HAVE INFLUENCED YOU?
We play prog metal. Technical music, but whole
songs with solid structure, not just exercises or speed playing. The bands
that have influenced us are Dream Theater, Fates Warning and Symphony X,
but also heavier stuff like Nevermore.
7. LET’S TALK A BIT ABOUT THE LYRICS. WHO WRITES
THEM AND WHAT KIND OF THINGS INSPIRE YOU TO WRITE ABOUT? CAN YOU TELL US
IN A FEW WORDS WHICH THE THEME OF EACH SONG INCLUDED IN THE DEMO IS?
Chris writes all the lyrics as well as the
vocal lines. They are all about various situations in life, but also about
social problems that bother us. “Temptation” is about everyday temptations
in life, as anybody can meet them. It’s not about something in particular,
but about various situations. “The Pledge” is about an oath that someone
vows and how it suppresses him to complete it, and “Mind Control” is about
how media and politicians control our lives.
8. HAVE YOU COMPOSED ANY NEW MATERIAL? WHICH WILL
YOUR NEXT STEP BE? WILL YOU RELEASE ANOTHER DEMO OR AN ALBUM PERHAPS? WHEN
SHOULD WE WAIT FOR A FUTURE RELEASE OF YOURS?
We have composed new songs which we are now
recording expecting a future album release.
9. DID YOU HAVE ANY OFFERS FROM A LABEL SO FAR?
WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU WANT A LABEL TO OFFER YOU IN ORDER TO SIGN A CONTRACT
WITH THEM?
We had some offers from labels but we haven’t
signed anything yet.
