Hydrogyn
Hydrogyn is a new rock
band from the United States. They have a very good front woman and the
touch of Midas in the production area of their second album. Just read
the conversation that we had with their singer and you will see why they
are the new rising force from USA.
1. Hi Julie! First of all congratulations
on your newest album. Since this is our first interview, give us some info
about your band.
We are a 5 piece from the States. A Melodic
Hard Rock band. We deal with the modern as well as classic aspects in out
music. We incorporate different stuff into our style which we simply call
HYDROGYN.
2. "Hydrogyn"… Why did you choose this name
for the band?
It is a name full of energy!!!!!!!!!! Explosive
and that is how we want our show and music to come across. That and a lot
of bad bodily functions with some of the band members (gas) and so we found
the name HYDROGYN
3. Let's start from a great man that you had
in order to produce and mix the album, Michael Wagener. Tell me how was
to work with him and do you think that this will help you to "push" the
band more?
Working with Michael was and is awesome. WE
stay in everyday contact with him as we have become very close friends.
Working with him taught all of us a lot that we will never forget. He pushed
us in the studio and we appreciate it and loved it all at the same time.
I am sure his involvement will continue to help as it already has on many
levels. Michael not only produced, engineered and mixed the CD but he did
the artwork for the CD cover and booklet. A first for him.
4. You told us about the CD cover. Who designed
it and what’s the story behind it?
Hahahaha. Well the whole thought behind the
cover is simple actually. We wanted something that would stand out and
get your attention as a consumer or fan. We had already come up with the
name Bombshell as the working title. While we were in the studio myself,
Michael and Guitarist Jeff Westlake worked on the concept. We wanted something
that related to the word bombshell. When someone says that phrase you think
of Monroe or a good looking girl. We wanted to take Monroe to a new Dark
level but still be hot. WE incorporated John Scarpati to do the photos
and what you see is what we came up with. That is not a jail cell but a
very dark back ally way.
5. So we can say that first you want to attract
the fan or the consumer with your beauty and then with the beauty of your
music?
Well. I guess you could say that. Not with
the beauty but more of a what is that. The music speaks for itself but
you have to have a great package and we use everything that is available
to us. What got your attention?
6. Personally, before I listened to the album,
I considered that you used the beauty of your singer, as much as you could,
since it isn't the only thing we see on the cover. But besides that, for
those that haven’t heard your debut album, including me, are there any
differences, musically between these two works?
Thank you. My point in that was that if I
see a hot girl or guy it attracts me to it. Wether they be beautiful, sexy,
stunning it just attracts the basic human instinct. That is what we were
shooting for. As for the 2 releases ; yes they are a bit different. Bombshell
is more melodic vocally. This is the first band I have ever been in and
best served was my initiation and bombshell and working with Michael taught
me a lot. The music is still very heavy but I feel vocally it is a much
better product.
7. So far how are the reactions of the press
and fans for "Bombshell"?
Actually very good I must say. The reviews
have been suprising and the fans have been absolutely awesome.
8. Hydrogyn has three guitarists; do you believe
that this thing gives you an overall heavy sound?
Actually we have 2. Jeff Westlake and Jeff
Boggs. We had to replace Boggsy for a bit with another guy who is no longer
with us due to Jeff Coming back after he took care of some personal stuff.
And then we have our bass player too.
9. Which are your influences as a singer?
Wow. Well to be honest no one. Up until about
2 and a half years ago I did not even listen to Rock music. I grew up singing
in choir and never listened to anything rock. My parents were not big on
it at all. Now I love Dio, Dickinson, Halford,Kroger from Nickleback, Coverdale
and a bunch more but they were not influences. I guess my mom would be
an influence as I learned how to sing from her
10. From mother to daughter right? Hehehe.
Seriously now Julie, tell me your plans in order to support "Bombshell".
We are playing live and in the process of
trying to set up a European tour. We want to be in Europe in a very bad
way. We have and our label Chavis/DA Records have been pushing with Marketing
etc. I have been lucky to get the covers of a few Rock magazines as well.
We want to tour tour tour.
11. So I wish you to do this European tour
then. Now let's talk about the lyrical themes on this album.
Well it is funny. Each track has its own story
but somehow at the end of the day the CD ended up being very thematical.
Not conceptual but thematical. It was done completely with out plan. Just
happened that way.
12. I want to thank you for your time Julie
and in order to close this interview tell me your wildest dream for Hydrogyn.
Well of course I would love to see us be a
platinum band and tour the world non stop and leave a mark in music. I
would some day love to go away on top and have millions of fans. Like a
Priest, Dio, Nickelback, Aerosmith, Ozzy etc. The big thing is though that
I love to sing and play music and I hope it reaches people in a way that
they will always remember us. By the way you are the first to hear this.
Our new video for BLIND has just been finished too.
