Eventide
Eventide is a newcoming
act from Greece that has managed to create an interesting piece of work.
We think that their music and lyrics are so intriguing that we found it
necessary to ask them a few questions about the band and their plans...
1. HELLO! HOW ARE YOU? SINCE YOU ARE A NEW
BAND, I WOULD LIKE YOU TO GIVE US SOME INFO ABOUT YOU: WHEN HAVE YOU FORMED
THE BAND, PRESENT THE LINE-UP AND MENTION ANY SIGNIFICANT MOMENTS IN THE
BAND’S LIFE SO FAR…
Hi Nikos! We're fine thanx. The band was formed
in 2001 with full line-up. At the present time it's just the 2 of us (Akis-bass,
Alexandros-vox). Every time we bring a new song to life it's a significant
moment for us. And of course the recordings of our first full-length
CD is a dream come true.
2. IN THE BOOKLET OF YOUR PROMO I SEE THAT ONLY
2 OF YOU ARE THE MAIN MEMBERS OF THE BAND AND THAT YOU HAVE ALSO USED 2
SESSION MUSICIANS. CAN YOU TELL US WHO ARE THESE GUEST MUSICIANS AND IF
THEY PLAY IN OTHER BANDS?
The guitars in the album are performed by
our friend Nikos (a great musician!!) who has also helped us in the mixing.
Unfortunately he can't follow us as a full-time member. The drums are performed
by Stelios Kardamakis whose main band is Delivers Of Rock.
3. ARE YOU SEARCHING FOR STABLE MEMBERS
OR WILL YOU CONTINUE IN THIS FORM?
One of our main concerns is to complete the
line-up of the band so that we can play our new songs live. We have to
admit though that it's really difficult to work with other musicians when
you have already established your own creative methods. However we don't
give up on searching.
4. I WOULD DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND AS POWER/THRASH
METAL WITH SOME DOOM TOUCHES. DO YOU AGREE WITH THAT?
We agree with the way you put it, though we
don't want to describe our songs with specific terms. We prefer to call
our music simply heavy metal. We wish to have many different and often
controversial aspects in our songs. We love equally "Master Of Puppets"
and "Into Glory Ride", "Burnt Offerings" and "Spirit The Earth Aflame".
5. AGAIN IN YOUR BOOKLET I READ THAT YOU HAVE
INCLUDED HERE 4 ROUGH – MIXED TRACKS FROM YOUR UPCOMING ALBUM. SO CAN I
ASSUME THAT YOU HAVE ALL THE COMPOSITIONS READY? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THESE
4 TRACKS TO INCLUDE IN THIS PROMO AND NOT SOME OTHERS?
All the songs are completed and recorded and
at the time being we are finishing the mixing procedure. We
chose these 4 songs because we think that they represent every aspect of
Eventide music.
6. WHEN DO YOU PLAN TO RELEASE YOUR FULL – LENGTH
ALBUM? HOW WILL YOU TITLE IT? WILL YOU RELEASE IT FROM A LABEL OR WILL
IT BE SELF – FINANCED?
The album will be named after the band's name
and will come out as soon as possible.
we can't really say from which record label yet
because we're still on the search.
7. I NOTICED THAT YOUR LYRICS ARE DARK AND
PESSIMISTIC. WHO WRITES THE LYRICS IN THE BAND AND FROM WHERE DO YOU DRAW
INSPIRATION? CAN YOU TELL US IN A FEW WORDS THE THEME OF EACH SONG THAT
YOU HAVE INCLUDED IN THE PROMO CD OF YOURS?
The way we see it, our lyrics are not just
dark and pessimistic. They're reflecting the world, past and present, as
seen through our eyes and coloured by our experiences as individuals. We'd
like to add here that we both write lyrics for the band.
"Shadow Of The Past": The past casts its shadow
upon us. We all live and dwell within the shadows of our past, as in the
same time we create the shadows of our future.
"Dead Stones Whisper": An act of self-sacrifice.
A battle against ourselves. A deed that echoes in eternity, still defining
our dreams, carrying our hopes, leading us to glory and drawing the line
between the shadows of the past and the mortal suns of the future. A song
for those"in number few...for those who fell undimmed".
"In Ruins": Deeds that despite the outcome
never cease to shine on. A song for all those who were here before us and
for those who will be here after us. A song for the cycle of life and the
tide of time.
"Semichrist": To self-crowned messiahs and
saviours inc.
8. IF YOUR MUSIC WAS A PAINTING WHAT DO YOU THINK
IT WOULD SHOW AND WHY?
If our music was a painting it would have
been a sunset. In greek this word bares the meaning of the most glorious
and majestic moment of the wheel of the sun, which even as it breeds darkness,
it carries within the promise of dawn.
9. HERE I GIVE YOU THE CHANCE TO WRITE IN A FEW
LINES AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR YOUR BAND. WHAT WOULD YOU WRITE?
Everything we could say about our music has
already been said. "There are things to be done / a battle to be fought
/ and even if death death is all I won / the battle has been fought"!
