Enemy
Of Thought
Enemy Of Thought is a new
and powerful UK combo that not only do they compose great music, but I
bet they are fun to see live on stage or at least this is what I realized
from this very funny and interesting interview. The guys are preparing
songs for their forthcoming release, so get to know them a bit better,
cause I bet we will soon be talking about them a lot!!!
1. Hi guys! Since this is our first interview,
tell us a few things about Enemy Of Thought.
Pete: It started off with Norman and myself
- we wanted to form a heavier band than the last one we were in. We were
lucky enough to get Chris and Mason involved and we've been writing ever
since
2. Enemy Of Thought… Why did you choose this
as the moniker of your band?
Pete: It was Norman’s idea - he heard the
phrase "Action is the enemy of thought" in a film. I believe the words
were spoken by Nicole Kidman. The rest of us grew to like it eventually
she's a fox.
3. You recently released your latest work;
tell us a few things about it.
Pete: It's simply 6 of our favourite songs
that we've written. They were all recorded, mastered and produced in POG
Studios Liverpool. I think the 6 songs show a little bit of our development
as a band - for example, “Who the hell are you!” was our first recording
and “M-G-I” was our most recent.
4. Which is the procedure that you follow when
you write new songs?
Mason: We all rehearse in Liverpool were we
play the tunes which we have structured and thought about, usually it brings
about a totally new tune on the spot.
Chris: First of all we sit round and come up
with a basic idea that we work on until we like what we hear. The lyrics
come from sitting round and listening to what we've done till a picture
forms in our heads then the lyrics flow.
Pete: It changes from song to song I think.
Sometimes one of us will bring a nearly complete idea to the others and
then we'll all work on it. Other times, we just jam until a new song just
comes out.
5. You come from a country that the classic
metal isn't so famous even if you have the biggest band Iron Maiden. Why
do you believe the audience follows the modern paths of metal?
Mason: It is no nonsense music, honest and
from the heart.
Chris: I think it's a culture thing. The sounds
that are being released today are very powerful in their contents. Like
when punk was big in the 70's, for the youth it is like giving the bird
to the establishment. If adults don’t like it they do… lol with so many
BIG record labels treating the listeners like sheep, telling them what
and what not to buy, I believe that the youth of today has finally
begun to see through them and buy what they want to hear.
Pete: I think there will always be a
core of people who love and follow classic rock but I think this country
has always been prone to following the next trend - a bit too fashion conscious
perhaps?
6. Chris do you believe that the magazines
are responsible for that?
Chris: I believe that the many underground
magazines out there are forcing the trend yes. Unfortunately I still think
that the record labels have a lot of say in the bigger magazines.
Pete: Although I do believe the online music
press and download sites are slowly changing that, the big labels have
all the power to promote bands and get them heard and so become big.
7. Now back to Enemy Of Thought. If someone
asked you, to describe the music direction of the band what would you say?
Mason: Hungarian folk, only joking!!!
Pete: I'm not really sure that we've established
a single direction yet. I think that we write what we like and then hope
others will like it too. You can probably hear our influences but I think
we're still developing our sound.
Chris: It's always a difficult question to
answer because we don’t write to a particular sound we tend to come up
with harder edged music so I suppose that the metal tag is close for now.
8. What are your future plans in order to support
your latest release?
Mason: Festivals and hell’s angels gigs!!!
MMMMM!!! BALLOONS!!!
Pete: We're trying to persuade Mason to do
a naked balloon dance on national television whilst wearing nothing but
an EOT baseball cap. We've just filmed our first video for the song 'I
AM'. It was loads of fun - hopefully we can use this video to help spread
the word about EOT.
Chris: We have just finished making the video
to “I AM”, and we are at present trying to set up some gigs to follow it
up.
9. If I push the play button on your CD player
what will I hear?
Mason: Nixon confession, Audioslave.
Pete: LORDI!!!!!!!!!
Chris: Got a 5 CD changer and on it are, in
order... CD1 Pearl Jam “10”, CD2 Ray Wilson “An Audience And Ray”,
CD3 Iron Maiden “Killers”, CD4 Iron Maiden “Powerslave” and CD5 Stone Temple
Pilots “Core”.
10. Have you composed any new songs?
Pete: Hell yes! Loads on the way. “Chaos In
Her Mind” is the working title for a song we've been playing live - and
it's huge! We just need to record it now.
Mason: Yeah and there more still to be structured!
Chris: Yes we have several in the pipeline
that just blow you away!!!
11. Your wildest dream about Enemy Of Thought?
Pete: Well, world domination would be nice.
It would be awesome to gig all over the world - especially Greece!
Chris: World domination is always a good thing
simply we want to provide the world with sound that they want to hear that
just happens to be what we like as well.
Mason: AHH! What the hell! World domination
and broccoli.
12. So guys, thank you very much for your time!
I wish you all the best in the future and close the interview as you want.
Pete: Enemy Of Thought wish all your readers
well and hope to see them at a gig near you soon ...especially the women!!!!
Chris: Hi to everyone, wherever you hail
from. If you know us thanks for being there and if you don’t thanks for
going soon!!!
