Embrace My Ruin
Embrace My Ruin is a newcoming gothic doom/death metal band from Italy that respects the past and the heritage of the enormous bands of this genre, but at the same time they try to explore this genre through their own persepctive, trying to find their personal stamp. The result of their efforts is their demo CD "A Lullaby For A Dying" that is going to be appreciated by the doom/deathsters all around the world. This is why we thought we should give the band a chance to present themselves better and more thoroughly through this interview...

1. GIVE US IN BRIEF THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF THE BAND AND PRESENT THE CURRENT LINE UP.
Hi Christine! The band was born in 2005 with the purpose to play gothic metal with only female vocals but everything changed and we ended up to create a band playing doom death gothic metal with growls, screams and female vocals. In December 2006 we recorded our first demo CD, “A lullaby for a dying”, and soon the guitarist left the band. After a few months we found the new guitarist and now we’re promoting the stuff, receiving good reviews.
2. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IF YOU WERE ASKED TO COMMENT ON AND ADVERTISE YOUR ALBUM IN A FEW WORDS?
“A lullaby for a dying” is a demo CD of pure doom death gothic metal following the lead of the masters of this kind of music such as My Dying Bride, Novembre, Novembers Doom, Katatonia, Officium Triste taught us. The CD is composed by 4 tracks full of depression and melody.
3. HAVE YOU GOT ANY PREVIOUS RELEASES? IF YES, WHICH ARE THE DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES AMONGST THEM?
No, “A lullaby for a dying” is our debut demo CD, but we’re writing other songs for the next CD. The doom goes on.
4. WHAT’S THE BEST AND WHAT’S THE WORST PART OF YOUR MUSIC, ACCORDING TO YOU?
I think we’ve recorded a good debut demo CD and the reviews all around the world and the comments on our myspace page (www.myspace.com/embracemyruinweb - this is the new page because the old one was deleted by hackers) confirm that. The worst part is that this work isn’t original at all, we’re so influenced by the monsters of doom death gothic metal. Anyway, we’re proud to present “A lullaby for a dying” to metalheads.
5. WHY DO YOU THINK THE METAL HEADS SHOULD CHECK YOU OUT? WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO OFFER TO THE SCENE? IS THERE SOMETHING YOU FEEL THAT SETS YOU APART?
We could offer good music and passion. Every metalhead must support underground bands.
6. YOU PLAY ATMOSPHERIC DOOM/DEATH METAL, SO I’D LIKE TO KNOW WHY YOU’VE CHOSEN TO FOLLOW SUCH A GLOOMY SOUNDING GENRE. I MEAN ARE YOU PESSIMISTS? IF NOT, WHICH ARE THE REASONS THAT LEAD YOU TOWARDS THIS SOUND?
Yes, I’m very pessimist. Doom death metal is not only a genre of this music, but I think it’s a way to observe the little things around us with hate, irony, melancholy. Hate, fear, the sublime, pessimism are the “feelings” that survive among all.
7. ARE THERE ANY ELEMENTS YOU’D LIKE TO ADD OR EXPERIMENT WITH IN THE FUTURE?
No, but I think we will have a few gothic elements in the future. We will make something stronger than our demo CD. An impenetrable wall of sound!
8. WHY DO YOU USE DUAL MALE AND FEMALE VOCALS? WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY ADD TO YOUR MUSIC?
As I said before, the female vocals were the point to start this musical project and to insert some gothic influences in our heavy sound. Growls and screams weigh down further the sound so female parts lighten it.
9. WHICH ARE YOUR MAIN INFLUENCES AND WHO ARE THOSE MUSICIANS THAT MADE YOU REALIZE THIS IS THE KIND OF MUSIC YOU LOVE AND WANT TO FOLLOW?
My Dying Bride over all, then Officium Triste, Swallow The Sun, Katatonia, Novembre and so on…
10. YOUR ALBUM TITLE (AND YOUR MONIKER TOO0 SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES AND OFFER A CLEAR DESCRIPTION OF YOUR SOUND. HOWEVER, I THINK I’D LIKE TO LEARN SOME MORE ON THE LYRICS SECTION… WHICH ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION?
I wrote all the lyrics of the demo CD, but sincerely I don’t like so much what I wrote…Those words don’t respect my inner feeling. Anyway, the source of my inspiration is my life, because everyday there is something wrong, many murders, abuse, perversions…
11. IF YOU HAD A BIG BUDGET TO SHOOT A VIDEO CLIP, WHICH SONG OF YOURS WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND HOW DO YOU IMAGINE IT TO BE?
I think “In a deep silence” because it’s a complete song, with many heavy parts. I don’t know how we could work on a video; there are seven members with seven heads with many different opinions about the look the band must have.
12. HOW DO YOU PLAN TO PROMOTE YOUR WORK? HAVE YOU GOT ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS?
No plans for live shows. Here in Italy it’s so hard to find a place to make a show in. We’ve done two shows at the moment, but nothing else. Some Greek metalheads asked me if we could play in Greece…it’s my dream.
13. HAVE YOU SENT YOUR DEMO TO ANY LABELS? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE OFFERED IN ORDER TO SIGN A DEAL?
Yes, many labels have our demo CD and some of them are very interested in us…but some of them asked us money to record and promote the debut full length. Fuck, we want only to have the assistance but first of all we want to make shows, many shows not only in south Italy.
14. IS THERE A QUESTION YOU’D LIKE TO BE ASKED AND NO ONE HAS EVER ASKED YOU SO FAR?
Mmmm, no. I like so much questions because I can understand who the person that talks to me is.
15. WHAT’S THE STRANGEST OR FUNNIEST INCIDENT THAT HAS OCCURRED TO THE BAND?
We are so young to tell anecdotes. We go to the studio, play our music, drink our beers, smoke the cigarettes and talk about the songs we want to record for the next CD.
16. WHAT KIND OF EMOTIONS DO YOU THINK YOUR MUSIC IS ABLE TO CREATE OR TRANSMIT TO YOUR LISTENERS?
Depression, hate against life, the beauty of solitude, the pain and the sweetness of a  hurt.
17. IF YOUR MUSIC WERE A PAINTING, WHAT WOULD IT SHOW?
A beautiful, pale woman sleeping on splinters of glass. Scars and perversion…No poetry, but only the cruel reality! And the doom death metal vomits this kind of sad feelings.
18. THANK YOU! IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO MENTION
Thank you and your good webzine. You do a great work in it. “Geia sas pedia…”
