Dusk Eternal
Dusk Eternal is a new melodic black metal band that comes from Greece, after their last show in their hometown Patra, we sat down and talked about the past and the future of the band. Read what these young guys told us about various things.

1. First of all give me the curriculum vitae of the band. Tell me about its story.
Archon: The story began on March of 2005: Melkarth and I are the founding members of the band. At the time, due to a wrecking project we were looking for musicians whose participation could give color to our ideas and could synchronize themselves with our rhythm. We had already found Angmar but because of the fact that he was in another group, we stayed only in theory. Eventually on March we got together and created the final line up of Dusk Eternal.
2. Who had the idea of the band’s name? Is there any particular story concerning the name Dusk Eternal?
Melkarth: The main idea was mine. We were looking to find a solid name which could express us. Dusk is the beginning of night and mystery. From the time the sun goes down every feeling, every idea and every fear grows stronger. There is a veil of mysticism and occult. The other half came out with Archon’s help who proposed the word Eternal to emphasize the duration of these feelings. We told it to the other guys and they agreed.
3. Tell me about the recording of your demo-CD.
Angmar: In our recording there were some things that played important role such as that we fit together both as friends and band from the very beginning. Through the rehearsals we understood that we had a nice quality of communication, therefore the capability of something good.
Provided that we already owned a good material (melodies and lyrics) we started making the demo-CD.
4. How long has your demo been released?
    Angmar: About a month.
5. Which are the reactions towards your demo so far?
Angmar: We have received really good reviews from magazines, fanzines, and webzines.
6. How could you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it, so that he can get a clear image of what to expect?
Faethon: We play majestic black metal in the veins of Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, old Cradle of Filth and Emperor. I believe that every metal fan can find good elements in our music. So we address to all metal audience.
7. Which are the musical influences of each and every one of you?
Angmar: I am influenced by Dimmu Borgir (even in my performance)

Faethon: I am influenced by my favourite bands: Bathory,Burzum and Satyricon. I also like majestic black metal bands, like Old Man’s Child, Dimmu Borgir, old Cradle of Filth and Hecate Enthroned.

Voldred: I have influences from all the black metal scene.

Archon: I am trying not to let my influences distract me from my compositions, though I can not take control over it, so that our sound represents only our own interior worlds. A sound that represents as well my demands as the others.

Melkarth: I am influenced by Satyricon, Venom, and Marduk.

8. You use keyboards as well. Is it so, because keyboards are a basic part of your music or just to emphasize a dark atmosphere?
Angmar: We really think high of the keyboards and they are the main reason that all the members of the band are fond of majestic black metal.
9. What do you mean with the term majestic black metal? Give me some bands as a representative example of this kind of music.
Angmar: Dimmu Borgir – Enthroned Darkness Triumphant era.
10. All of you live in the same city, except your keyboard player, Dionysus. Since you overemphasize in keyboards, will that stand as an obstacle for your band?
Angmar: No, every single time we need him, he is here.

Voldred: He has never missed a rehearsal. Either way we usually practice on weekends, when we have no studying/working obligations.

11. You all came from different cities. Do you believe that your band will expire as soon as your studying obligations come to an end?
Archon: I really do want to believe that our band won’t have an expiring date, though these thoughts might look like wishful thinking. The ability to express our feelings through music and the turn them into a band was a dream we all share. It makes us breathe and grow stronger. Unless something too serious come along. I think that no one of us will have the urge to leave the band behind and start from the scratch.. We have been bonded as friends, other than being member of Dusk Eternal, so distance won’t bother us at all.

Voldred: You can always work things out. When we face this problem we will find a reasonable solution.

12. What are you listening to, at the present time?
Faethon: I find very interesting the last Primordial album because it has a lot influences of  Bathory. Futhermore the last Naer Mataron is a killer one! I can’t wait for the new Old Man’s Child too!

Voldred: I am trying to listen to bands that I didn’t have the chance to pay attention to before. Mostly from the earlier black metal scene.

13. Do you think that the black metal scene is substandard of the earlier one?
Melkarth: They have too many differences in the rhythm, lyrics and melody. Just this.
14. In the bottom line, do you really think that keyboards suit black metal music?
Angmar : It depends on what you want to express. If you want to play extreme black metal, it’s not a good idea to include them. But if you want to emphasize on music and help the audience on getting into your mood, keyboards are essential
15. How did you choose your nicknames?
Faethon: I have a passion for Ancient Hellas.”Faethon” is a name that represents me as a person.

Angmar: My nickname was decided in a rush and it is about to change in the album. It’s based on “Lord of the Rings”. I am going to turn it into “Talos” because I have a special love for ancient Egypt.

Voldred: My nickname is my own invention and inspiration influenced by the northern nicknames.

Melkarth: As for my own,”Melkarth” is a Babylonian God of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, storms etc.

Archon: I choosed “Archon” for my personal reasons. Although it looks like it’s taken from a Rotting Christ song. I believe that each and every one of us is the lord of the things he owns, elements and secrets…

16. Which are the future plans of Dusk Eternal?
Faethon: We have released our first demo, which we will try to promote through live concerts, internet and interviews. After that we are thinking to record our first full length album. At the present time we have performed live shows in Patra and Athens and we have in mind to perform many more in Hellas and abroad.
