Demiricous
Demiricous is a rising
force in the classic bay area thrash metal scene with music that will definitely
remind you of the good old days! So, this band is here to revive the dead
with their high class, energetic and in your face songs! If you don't believe
me, then read what they told us...
1. HELLO! "ONE" IS A VERY GOOD THRASH
METAL ALBUM. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT? HOW WERE THE RESPONSES OF THE PRESS
ABOUT YOUR NEW ALBUM?
Thanks so much man, I appreciate it.
I feel pretty good about it, I'm just excited to get on the road n shit
and stick my job up someone's ass. The press shit so far has been really
good. It feels good to be received pretty well so soon n shit. At
the same time we got a lot of work to do.
2. IF I ASKED YOU TO PIN-POINT SOME OF YOUR
GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS AS A BAND TILL NOW, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
Probably just getting signed. But my favorite
shit so far has been the local shows we've played here in Indy with all
our best friends bands n shit just getting wild as shit, that's what has
made me the happiest.
3. BEFORE YOU FORMED DEMIRICOUS, HAVE YOU
PLAYED IN OTHER BANDS AS WELL? HAVE YOU RELEASED ANYTHING WITH THOSE BANDS?
DID YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE HELP YOU TO AVOID SOME OBSTACLES THIS TIME?
I had played in little punk bands n shit just
to fuck around but we never really tried to do anything or release shit
unless we just made a little demo for our friends n shit.
4. BY THE WAY DEMIRICOUS IS A VERY STRANGE
NAME. WHAT DOES IT MEAN AND HOW DID YOU CHOOSE IT?
It doesn't mean anything. We made it up. We
didn't want a name that stuck an image or style on you right away. We just
wanted a metal-sounding name.
5. FROM WHAT I LISTENED, I BELIEVE THAT
YOUR SOUND IS INFLUENCED BY GROUPS LIKE METALLICA AND SLAYER. DO YOU AGREE?
WHICH OTHER BANDS ARE A BIG INFLUENCE FOR YOU? NAME 5 OF YOUR ALL TIME
FAVORITE METAL ALBUMS.
Yeah we are all about the 80's and early 90's
thrash and death metal shit. As for other influences I'd say old Sepultura,
Pantera, Judas Priest, all the Bay area thrash, old Cradle of Filth, all
kinds of shit. Favorite 5 metal albums. Shit Guns N' Roses - Appetite for
Destruction (if you consider it metal), Slayer - Reign in Blood, Pantera
- all of em, Suffocation - Pierced From Withhin, the Dream is Dead - Hail
the New Pawn.
6. YOU SAY THAT YOU'VE DECIDED TO PLAY THRASH
METAL, BECAUSE NOWADAYS NO ONE PLAYS THIS KIND OF MUSIC. LET ME BE THE
DEVIL'S ADVOCATE AND ASK YOU: DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE STILL MANY
PEOPLE INTERESTED IN LISTENING TO THIS KIND OF MUSIC AND ESPECIALLY IN
THE U.S. WERE NU-METAL RULES?
Well, Nu-Metal rules in pop type shit but
everybody knows it ain’t the real shit. Really we are just creating the
band we always wanted to hear growing up n shit. We never really aimed
for a certain sound or anything. When we started writing music together
it became thrash-death metal type shit. Just playing the riffs we miss
and want to hear.
7. BEFORE YOU RELEASED THE ALBUM "ONE",
YOU HAVE RELEASED AN EP THAT ATTRACTED THE INTEREST OF METAL BLADE. SO
DID YOU INCLUDE ANY SONGS OF THE EP ON YOUR DEBUT RELEASE? IF YES, HAVE
YOU CHANGED THEM A BIT?
Yeah we kept 2 songs from our 2005 demo and
put them on the record. There are minor changes to them but nothing really
drastic.
8. IT'S TRUE THAT THE HEAVY METAL SCENE
OF TODAY HAS BECOME MORE PROFESSIONAL IN COMPARISON TO THE SCENE OF THE
80'S. HOWEVER DON'T YOU THINK THAT THIS PROFESSIONALISM HAS KILLED THE
REBEL SPIRIT OF THIS MUSIC?
It depends on how real the bands keep the
shit. I know what you mean but every person has the choice to keep the
shit raw and not give up what counts for shit like money or whatever. I
do think things are a little dull in a way but I don't think it only exists
in metal. I think people are kind of afraid to rebel as long as they are
comforted somewhat with money or fame or some shit like that.
9. BY THE WAY, WHY DO YOU THINK THESE LAST
YEARS LESS AND LESS SONGS THAT PASS THE TEST OF TIME ARE COMPOSED?
Good question, I think some of it has to do
with how easy it may be to get signed these days. It seems like all it
takes is a gimmick instead of real song writing skills to get somewhere
in music. I think some of it has to do with how flooded the industry
is as well. It's harder and harder to think outside the box for kids because
there is so much shit all around them. Plus you are not really taught to
strictly think outside the boundaries generally. I really think we probably
have another Jimmy Page sitting inside his parents’ house but he isn't
a signed artist cuz he isn't wearing eyeliner and his girlfriends fucking
clothes.
10. YOU HAD THE LUCK TO PLAY LIVE WITH MANY GREAT
METAL BANDS. HOW DID THIS HELP YOU? WHICH OF THOSE BANDS HELPED YOU AND
WHICH ONES HAD A ROCK STAR ATTITUDE AND PISSED YOU OFF?
I've never really encountered any shitty attitudes
yet really. Honestly the only attitude I've consistently gotten is usually
venue workers for some reason. But that don't mean shit really, not enough
to complain about it or some shit.
11. HERE IN GREECE OLD STYLE THRASH METAL IS STILL
VERY FAMOUS. SO IS THERE A CHANCE TO SEE YOU PLAYING LIVE HERE? IN GENERAL,
WILL YOU VISIT EUROPE FOR LIVE SHOWS?
I fucking hope so, I know that our plans for
now are to get our feet on the ground here in the U.S. and get our shit
straight. And when the time is right, we will get over to Europe and just
rage out. I hope we get over there in 2006 that would be amazing.
12. YOU HAVE MANAGED TO SIGN WITH A BIG METAL
LABEL, METAL BLADE. SO WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THE NEW BANDS IN ORDER
TO FIND A GOOD DEAL WITH A LABEL?
For us we got lucky in a lot of ways, we drunkenly
begged a guy here in town who manages some other bands to manage us. And
he took us on and that was how we got our shit into the right hands so
to speak. But I think the best advice would be if you are in a band to
get signed, quit cuz that's the wrong way to go. If it's meant to happen,
then shit will work out. Play what you want and don't listen to anybody
who has negative shit to say about it. If you do get a deal on the table,
get a goddamn lawyer so you don't get totally fucked. Be careful. Have
fun with everything you do.
13. LET'S SAY THAT YOUR MUSIC IS A PAINTING, WHAT
WOULD IT SHOW? IF IT WAS AN EMOTION, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Fuck, just come to a show.
14. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME REPLYING
THIS INTERVIEW! THE LAST LINES BELONG TO YOU AND LEAVE A MESSAGE TO THE
READERS OF BEHIND THE VEIL WEBZINE.
Thanks so much I appreciate your time man!!!
And thanks to anyone who actually took the time to read everything my dumbass
has to say!!
