Degree
Absolute
Degree Absolute is a new
band in the progressive scene and recently they released their debut album.
So we had a small talk with the main man of this band and I believe you
will understand that he prefers to talk through their music instead of
expressing himself with words.
1. First of all, congratulations on your
debut album. It was a really good piece of work!
Thank you! That’s very kind of you to say.
2. It's been a month since the album got in
stores. How do you see your creation now? Are you still satisfied with
it?
Since the material was written a long time
ago, that’s a difficult question to answer. I’m very relieved that it has
been released. Of course, there are several things that I wish I could
change, both as far as performance and composition are concerned, but that’s
all a part of learning and evolving.
3. You have more than six years of existence,
but this is your first album. Why did it take you so much time to release
it?
I relocated to Portland, Oregon in the fall
of 2002, and several tracks were corrupted in transit. It was necessary
to re-record quite a bit of material. Recording was completed in the summer
of 2003 and mixing occurred in July of 2004.
4. Neil Kernon, is responsible for the mix.
Do you believe that this man helped you in order to have a better final
result?
Yes, Neil did an amazing job. I can’t imagine
what it would have sounded like without his contribution.
5. As far as the lyrics are concerned, which
things intrigued you to talk about?
Every song has a different inspiration. All
are derived from various personal experiences, mostly.
6. What are your plans in order to support
this release?
There are no plans to tour. I’m mostly participating
in interviews, that sort of thing.
7. Tell me your wildest dream about Degree
Absolute.
I don’t have any lofty goals. I would simply
like to continue recording and releasing material, both as Degree Absolute
as well as in other bands or projects.
8. So far are you satisfied with the help from
Sensory Records?
Very satisfied. The Sensory staff has been
very supportive and understanding over the past few years, especially considering
the delays we experienced. Sensory has been outstanding.
9. Do you think that it is better to be in
a label that knows the music you’re playing instead of being in a bigger
label?
Definitely. Due to the consistent quality
of Sensory's releases, they have a reputation within this genre that is
unmatched, in my opinion. Because of this, Sensory was the target label
from the beginning.
10. Thank you very much for your time and close
the interview as you want!
Thank you very much for the interview! It
is greatly appreciated.
