Dawn
Of Perception
Dawn of Perception is a
new born band with only two years of existence so far. Before a few days
we had the chance to have a small talk with them and you can read the very
interesting things they told us below.
1. You have only one year of history, so
can you tell us some facts from your past?
Our band was founded in December 2004 by drummer
A. Kose and me, guitarist B. Rodigas, with the aim to make metal without
stylistic frontiers. Short time later bass player T. Schwarz, guitarist
S. Grollmisch and lead singer S. Schaffert joined the band. In the beginning
we played some cover songs from Death, At The Gates and Amon Amarth, but
soon we realized that there was enough potential to make our own songs.
In the middle of 2005 we began to record a demo, entitled “Fragments”.
It was completed in December and contains 5 songs.
2. Do you believe that you were ready to record
your debut demo?
You can never be ready enough! I think it’s
a good representation of the time we wrote the songs and recorded it. Of
course there are things that we would make different and better now, but
that’s normal I think.
3. Give us some details from the recordings
sessions.
They took very long! Haha... But it was a
very amusing and interesting process. We learned very much, doing it. First
we recorded the drums during one week in our rehearsal-room. The rest of
the stuff we did in our little home studio, so we had all the time in the
world to test some things out and experiment with sounds and I can tell
you, we needed the time! ;-) The mix and mastering took the longest time
because we had to make everybody satisfied. But finally, after hours and
hours in front of our computer, it worked.
4. You are dedicated to the death metal but
with a different point of view, do you believe that this thing can made
you be unique if you continue to work hard?
I think we are kind of unique already, but
the problem is, to get accepted in the different scenes, like in the death
metal or power metal scene. We stand between the lines, so we will see
if it works for the future. The new songs we wrote, are a little bit more
death metal and heavier. I think we will go more in this direction, and
keep our melodic parts too, but trying to integrate them better in our
songs.
5. Can you inform us on your future plans?
At the moment we concentrate on a live program,
so that we can play some gigs in spring and summer. According to that we
write new songs for a full-length-album.
6. As for the lyrics now… Which things inspire
you to write them?
In general our lyrics are about human relationships
and emotions. "Fall", for example contains a political theme and criticises
the ignorant and destructive behaviour of some politicians. "Storm Inside
The Hourglass" has very personal lyrics, written very metaphorically, but
on the other side taking aim on many people, I think. We write about things
that concerned us in our every day life, because you can put the most emotions
in it, when it is relevant for you personally.
7. Which are your influences as individual
musicians?
They are very wide ranged, everything that
is in a way innovative and original, is an influence for us. Our main influences
are bands like At the Gates, Carcass, Death, Opeth, Nevermore, Iron Maiden.
But we don’t want to sound like them, so we try to create our own style,
with using "fragments" from every genre.
8. What do you think about the underground
metal scene of your country?
I think it is pretty in tune, there are a
lot of small bands, which help each other to get some gigs and keep the
underground alive. Unfortunately the gigs are not attended very well, because
the cover scene is very popular here. But I think a little change is going
on, because we have a lot of great bands here and the people are more and
more interested in bands making their own music. Fact is, the cohesion
is very good and we have some good clubs that support underground gigs
with bands like us.
9. Thank you for your time and close the interview
as you want!
We want to thank you Antonis for making this
interview and the people who supported us so far. I hope we can get sometime
to Greece and play some shows. Please visit our homepage for more information!
