Corruption
Corruption is a new band
from Greece that has given birth to a very good 2 track promo CD, ideal
for all the death/grind metal fans. I'm sure that you'll love their music
or at least you'll find things to attract you in their compositions. So,
I think you should read this interview we did with the band's drummer,
Panagiotis, and check this promising act out!
1.FIRST OF ALL GIVE US A BRIEF BAND BIO AND
INTRODUCE THE CURRENT LINE UP TO THE READERS...
We exist as a band under the moniker Corruption
since 2000. We recorded our first demo back in 2001, moving back then in
a more thrash/death style. Nowadays our line up consists of:
Aristotelis – Guitar/vocals,
Michale – Vocals/Guitar
Apostolis – Bass Guitar and
Panagiotis (me) – Drums.
The line up was different in the past, but
this is of no importance now.
2.IF YOU WERE GIVEN THE CHANCE TO REVIEW
YOUR PROMO CD, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TRYING TO BE AS OBJECTIVE AS POSSIBLE?
First of all, I’d like to underline that what
we try to do is to express our ideas in the extreme metal genre. So, above
all we do it for our satisfaction as musicians and from that point on if
there are other people that like our music, this is great! I’d also like
to say that these 2 songs comprise our promo CD, which means that they
are not finally formed and may be subdued in various changes. As for being
objective... What can I say apart from the fact that we liked it, that’s
why we recorded it? It’s that simple.
3.YOU PLAY BRUTAL DEATH METAL WITH SOME GRINDCORE
EDGES, SO CAN YOU POINT OUT SOME OF YOUR MOST BELOVED BANDS AND MUSICIANS
THAT MADE YOU REALIZE THIS IS THE KIND OF MUSIC YOU ENJOY THE MOST?
I’d like to stress out here that death/grind
is not the only kind of music we like listening to. We listen to almost
everything except for the music the trendy clubs like to play (beats, trendy
pop, etc). When it comes to extreme music, our beloved bands are Nile,
Deeds Of Flesh, Hate Eternal, Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Behemoth and generally
music from one person to another. Earthly music with oriental climaxes,
etc.
4.WHICH ARE THE TOPICS YOU LIKE TO DEAL WITH IN
YOUR LYRICS? CAN YOU TELL US IN SPECIFIC ABOUT EACH SONG OF YOURS?
Our lyrics deal with anti-Christian topics,
not that Christ pisses us off, but we base our lyrics on what Christianity
has destroyed throughout the years, filling the hearts of people with fear.
We fight Christianity’s hypocrisy and we try to underline the ways that
it has prevailed over the other religions and cultures, demonizing everything
sacred of the old world. That old culture has attracted our attention
and we try to indluge in such issues. This is more or less our thematology
in all our songs, including these 2 in our promo CD. Our problem is that
we can’t express ourselves like we’d like to in the English language and
this is an important issue!
5.ARE THERE ANY ELEMENTS YOU’D LIKE TO ADD OR
EXPERIMENT WITH IN YOUR MUSIC? ARE YOU CONTENT WITH HOW YOUR PROMO CD TURNED
OUT TO BE?
Yes, we have many things in mind for the final
album. Instrumental songs or parts on our riffs. We want to have cymbals,
tzoura, outia, etc. We are generally going to have music that will transmit
the feeling I was telling you about above. Oriental sounds! But we still
need a lot of work to do, in order to create exactly what we aim for.
6.BY THE WAY, YOU INFORMED ME THAT YOU HAVE MORE
SONGS READY, WHICH ARE FASTER AND MORE BRUTAL. SO, CAN YOU GIVE US SOME
MORE INFO ON THAT?
I told you in one of my previous answers what's
the main feeling of our upcoming album. As far as the more uptempo tracks
are concerned, the brutal part of the songs, I think it’s a natural evilution.
We are going to have brutal riffs in the vein of Hate Eternal, Nile and
Deeds Of Flesh.
7.WHAT KIND OF FEEDBACK HAVE YOU RECEIVED? WHAT
WAS THE BEST AND WHAT THE WORST REVIEW YOU RECEIVED?
To be honest with you I’ve only read 2 reviews
till now. One is yours and the other is from the Greek Metal Hammer that
rated our promo CD with 7.5/10. If there is any other review somewhere
concerning our music, I don’t know... I have a friend that has also got
a band and this is how we find out about the addresses, the reviews, etc.
Imagine that I haven’t read the Metal Hammer review yet. We’re not so much
into the band’s promotion...
8.HAVE YOU SENT THE PROMO CD TO ANY LABELS? WITH
WHICH CRITERIA ARE YOU GOING TO SELECT THE “RIGHT” LABEL FOR YOU? WHICH
ARE YOUR REQUIREMENTS?
As you can figure out from my previous answers
I don’t know many things on that issue, so I can’t tell...
9.DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? HOW DIFFICULT
IS IT FOR A YOUNG BAND TO ORGANIZE AND PARTICIPATE IN LIVE SHOWS HERE IN
GREECE?
We’d like to play in Thessaloniki or Athens
one day, but in a nice place, with a nice sound and with other good bands.
However, I don’t think we’ll ever organize something ourselves. We tried
to organize some shows in Ksanthi and Serres and we saw how’s the situation
from first hand. We learned a lot... Live shows here in Greece is a sad
story. What can I say? We are lightyears behind, it’s very hard and you
don’t have to try too much to realize the truth in what I say. It’s a shitty
situation.
10.WHICH ARE THE FEELINGS THAT YOUR MUSIC CREATES
TO THOSE THAT LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC?
I don’t know about the others, but I surely
hope our music fills those who listen to it with hatred and create a crashing
mood! These 2 songs included in this promo CD, haven’t got, so intensely,
these feelings I’ve just described, but in special occasions I hope people
can get the meaning... The sure thing is that the message is clearer in
our new compositions.
11.WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF THERE WAS NO MUSIC IN
THE WORLD? HOW WOULD YOU CHANNEL ALL YOUR CREATIVE ENERGY?
Without music? At all? We’re not talking about
brutal music only now... Impossible! Can’t do it! What would you say if
bands like Pink Floyd have never existed?
12.WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO
HAVE? A TITLE THAT WOULD SUM UP THE WHOLE CORRUPTION STORY AND EFFORTS?
I don’t know. I leave it up to you!
