"Completion Makes The Tragedy"...
What do you get from this title? I'd say a variety of things, different
images and thoughts for every thinking person out there. Me? I haven't
clearly figured it out yet. I'm still searching for the best explanation,
a description that suits me... Really thought provoking don't you think?
Well, if you want to start thinking some more and have fun at the same
time, then I think you should read this interesting and funny interview
we had with Thorsten!
1. HELLO! HOW ARE YOU? FIRST OF ALL I HAVE
TO SAY THAT COLDSEED’S MUSIC HAS CONFUSED ME A LOT. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE
IT IN A FEW WORDS?
Well, first a HELLO back to you – and I’m
fine, thanks:) I would describe our music as a kind of “Melodic Crossover”.
Hard and brutal guitars are combined with intense melodies and modern electronic
elements.
2. WHEN HAVE YOU CAPTURED THE IDEA TO CREATE COLDSEED?
IS IT JUST A PROJECT OR WILL IT FUNCTION AS A NORMAL BAND? I MEAN WILL
YOU RELEASE OTHER ALBUMS AS WELL AND TOUR TO PROMOTE YOUR DEBUT ALBUM?
We started working in July 2004, when we recorded
the first demo tracks at Thomens’ studio in Madrid. COLDSEED definitely
developed itself from a project to a band and we surely want to promote
our debut on stage! There’s also material for a second album – but we’ll
have to wait and see how the fans like “Completion makes the tragedy”.
3. IF YES, WHICH ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS? HAVE YOU
BOOKED ANY LIVE APPEARANCES?
No, there are no live gigs planned yet. But
if there are dates, you’ll hear it first :)
4. BOTH THOMEN AND STRID HAVE OTHER BANDS, SO
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO WRITE MUSIC FOR ANOTHER BAND THAN YOUR MAIN ONES? HAVE
YOU FELT FREER TO CREATE WITH COLDSEED?
From a musical point of view, COLDSEED is
a totally independent band. That means during the songwriting and production
process, we never thought of the “other” bands of our two prominent members.
Of course EVERYONE is influenced somehow by someone…but our ideas came
out pretty naturally and not planned.
5. “COMPLETION MAKES THE TRAGEDY” IS A VERY POETIC
TITLE AND YET SOUNDS VERY MYSTERIOUS. WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU WANT TO SAY WITH
THAT TITLE?
Yeah, it’s very mysterious :) and also the
title track of the album. Indeed everyone can come to his own conclusion.
To me it’s a kind of metaphoric description of life with all its ups and
downs, circumstances etc.
6. IF YOU WERE ASKED TO WRITE A REVIEW, WHAT WOULD
YOU SAY TRYING TO BE AS OBJECTIVE AS POSSIBLE? WHAT’S THE BEST AND WHAT’S
THE WORST MOMENT ACCORDING TO YOU?
Oh, that’s a hard one! Well, I would try to
review the MUSIC and only the MUSIC as objective as possible. That means
regardless of any other circumstances according to the band, like band
members and their past or other projects, musical style and…äähh…maybe
haircuts :). To write a review about a record of my own band is really
hard – that’s your job actually :).
7. LET’S TALK ABOUT LYRICS. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE
FOR THEM? WHICH IS –IN BRIEF- THE THEME OF EACH SONG THAT YOU HAVE INCLUDED
ON YOUR DEBUT ALBUM?
Björn is responsible for all the lyrics
so he’s the one for the really detailed information about them. I can tell
that the thematical range of the lyrics is pretty wide, dealing with themes
like politics, human relationships etc.
8. IN ROCKDETECTOR I READ ABOUT A COLLABORATION
OF BJORN STRID WITH STEVE DIGORGIO. CAN YOU TELL US A FEW MORE THINGS ABOUT
THIS COLLABORATION?
No, I don’t know anything about that.
9. HERE IS A QUESTION THAT NEEDS A LOT OF BRAVERY
TO ANSWER I BELIEVE. CAN YOU TELL ME IF THERE IS A SONG ON THIS ALBUM THAT
YOU THINK IS A “FILLER”?
10. WHEN SHOULD WE WAIT FOR A NEW SOILWORK ALBUM?
DO YOU HAVE ANY SONGS READY?
Again, you’ll have to ask Björn.
11. NOW ABOUT COLDSEED… DO YOU PLAN TO SHOOT ANY
VIDEO – CLIPS? IF YES WHICH SONG WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
A video clip would be very nice, but there
are no plans yet.
12. YOUR MUSIC IS QUITE CONTROVERSIAL. ON ONE
HAND YOU HAVE MANY ATMOSPHERIC MOMENTS AND ON THE OTHER HAND YOU HAVE SOME
THRASHY MOMENTS. YOU BROUGHT TO MY MIND A SAYING OF HERACLETUS AN ANCIENT
GREEK PHILOSOPHER WHO SAID THAT THINGS THAT SEEM CONTROVERSIAL ARE THE
ONE AND THE SAME THING. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT?
Well, I definitely agree with that. To me
the most important thing in ALL musical styles is a certain kind of energy
in the music. If the music is good the energy always exists regardless
if it’s an atmospheric or thrashy part.
13. NOW IS THERE A SPECIFIC METHOD THAT YOU FOLLOW
WHILE COMPOSING MUSIC OR IS CREATING SONGS SOMETHING SPONTANEOUS?
My experience with songwriting is that the
best ideas are spontaneous! So if you try to create a new song or you’re
searching for a riff…RECORD ANYTHING right from the start! A lot of material
on “Completion makes the Tragedy” is based on spontaneous ideas!
