Calmsite
Calmsite is the band with
whom I did the most interviews since Behind The Veil webzine started functioning
and actually I could say that I know this band from its beginning. So,
what I can surely say is that these guys continue releasing quality songs
that deserve your attention... Hear them out!
1. FIRST OF ALL CONGRATULATIONS ON “EVILSDEATH”.
I THINK IT’S A VERY GOOD PIECE OF WORK, ACTUALLY YOUR BEST SO FAR, HOWEVER
IT’S ALWAYS INTERESTING TO FIND OUT THE CREATOR’S POINT OF VIEW.
2. WHAT HAPPENED TO CALMSITE FROM THE RELEASE
OF “THE ERECTOR” TILL “ELVISDEATH”?
Well, we did some gigs and wrote and rehearsed
new songs. Thats about it.
3. WHICH ARE THE MAIN SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES
BETWEEN “THE ERECTOR” AND “ELVISDEATH”? IN WHICH WAYS DO YOU THINK YOU
HAVE PROGRESSED AS A BAND?
Elvisdeath is way more better record. Elvisdeath
has maybe little more melody and rock influences on it. We haven’t progressed
as a band in any way. We are always this great.
4. I WROTE IN MY REVIEW THAT MUSICALLY YOU DWELL
BETWEEN THE MELODIC AND THE BRUTAL DEATH METAL SCENES AND AT THE SAME TIME
YOU HAVE SOME CLASSIC TOUCHES AND LOTS OF GROOVE. DO YOU AGREE WITH THIS?
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD IN MY REVIEW? SOMETHING THAT I
MIGHT HAVE FORGOTTEN OR NEGLECTED TO MENTION?
I guess that sums it up. But I don’t know
about brutal death metal. In my opinion bands like Cannibal corpse are
brutal death metal and we don’t sound like that at all.
5. THE ALBUM TITLE IS A BIT STRANGE… WHAT DO YOU
MEAN WITH “ELVISDEATH”? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE IT?
Album title has brought up a lot of attention,
so it means that its original. Everyone has asked what it means. We could
have named the album “in the shadows of darkness” but that would have been
just fucking stupid. One guy once said that we sound like Elvisdeath or
something. And we took it from there. It sounds cool and it is a really
good name for this record.
6. PLEASE TELL US A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE LYRICAL
CONTENT OF THE CD. WHICH ARE THE MAIN TOPICS YOU DEAL WITH HERE?
I guess they are just everyday life stuff
with little extreme flavours on them. Nothing serious. We are a rock n
roll band.
7. WHAT I SEE IS THAT YOU INSIST ON USING ONE
COLOUR ON EACH COVER ARTWORK OF YOURS. WHY? IS THIS SKULL SOMETHING LIKE
A MASCOT OR A TRADEMARK FOR YOU?
We just liked those colours, thats all. Skull
is a mascot for almost every heavy metal band in the world. So it’s not
a trademark for us.
8. HAVE YOU GOT ANY PLANS FOR LIVE SHOWS? HAVE
YOU DONE ANY LIVES TO SUPPORT “THE ERECTOR”?
We are doing live shows and we have always
done live shows. Doing some here in Finland and a US tour is planned for
next summer. Let’s see what happens.
9. BOTH YOUR FULL LENGTH ALBUMS HAVE BEEN RELEASED
THROUGH THE U.S. LABEL OAK KNOLL PRODUCTIONS. ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THEM?
WILL YOU CONTINUE YOUR COOPERATION? WHAT MADE YOU SIGN WITH THEM IN THE
FIRST PLACE?
We are quite happy working with Oak Knoll
productions. Don’t know yet if we will continue with them. We sent them
a promo cd and they wanted to work with us.
10. WHAT KIND OF THOUGHTS, FEELINGS OR IMAGES
DO YOU WANT TO CREATE TO YOUR LISTENERS? DO YOU THINK YOU ACHIEVE TO COMMUNICATE
THEM OR NOT?
We just want to create good music. That’s
our goal. We do it for ourselves and if somebody else likes it too, that’s
great!
10. WHAT TITLE WOULD YOU LIKE THIS INTERVIEW TO
HAVE? WHAT’S CALMSITE TO YOU?
Title? I’m so bad, I don’t care. Calmsite
for us is nothing.
