Anachronaeon
Anachronaeon is one of
the few bands that I had the pleasure to follow from their beginning. So
after our first interview before three years, now it was the best time
to talk with Patrik, for the new elements that you can find in this great
band from Sweden.
1. Hi Patrik! How are you? It’s been three
years since our last interview and you have released two more albums so
far. So, tell me the latest news concerning Anachronaeon?
Patrik: Well... I have started to write some
new material. I'm really taking my time, though. We have taken a little
break now, since "The New Dawn" has been finished. But that's just so we
can reload our batteries and come back with full force later on. We have
sent "The New Dawn" to two places for review. One target was you Antonis,
and thanx for the good review by the way, and the other target is a Swedish
magazine called Sweden Rock Magazine. We will probably send it to some
more places, but there's some business that has to be taken care of first.
See question number 7.
2. Through these years, you have changed your
name. Can you tell me why? What’s the story behind the new name?
Patrik: There was this punk band from Germany
that had taken the name "Human Failure" the same year as we did. Rather
than to be forced to take a fight for the name later, we decided to change
the band name into something more tricky, so that we'd know we are the
only one. Anachronaeon is the result of the merging of the words "anachronism"
and "aeon" - one interpretation of the words merging would be "The time
that something was wrong with". Like the 21th century and all the weird
shit that's happening all over the planet.
3. Recently you released your fourth self financed
album. Inform us by giving some details about the recordings of the new
release.
Patrik: Well. This time we wanted a rougher
sound. So the guitars have more distortion and are sharper than on "As
the last human spot in me dies". The drums are fatter and more intense.
We also experimented a little more with the panning of the guitars to fill
any void. There is also a little more presence in the sound over all. We
also recorded "The New Dawn" to a click-track to make it more accurate.
It worked out good I would say. When it comes to the bass, I tried to make
it go outside the guitar-figures to make things more interesting. Also
the fastest parts we've ever recorded can be found on this release. About
the vocals: We considered us done one time, but when we got home and listened
to the CD in our stereos we realised that the vocals were not good enough.
So we started over and corrected the parts that were less good, rearranged
some stuff too. Now we're happy. Of course we will make things even better
until the next time. I believe that you always can do things better, no
matter how good things turn out.
4. I think this time you have worked for a
concept story. Am I right? Why did you choose the alien story for your
new release?
Patrik: I wanted to do something with a different
angle. After we completed "As the last human spot in me dies" I had to
write about something different to keep me inspired. So I made up a story
about a political conspiracy that was global and had it's roots in USA,
because nothing is too weird to happen in the USA. Haha! The central part
of the story is about making the perfect soldier by mixing alien DNA with
the best DNA that can be found in man. It can be considered our contribution
to the DNA-manipulation debate.
5. Actually we can say that you are a studio
band, since throughout these years you had played live once. How was this
experience?
Patrik: It was really fun, and we filmed it.
Turned out pretty good. I would like to play live again sometime. The problem
is that we don't want the wrong people to infect our vision, our goal with
Anachronaeon. We demand pretty much of an eventual third member. After
this live-show that you are talking about the other guitarist left the
band, and we kicked out the bass-player. We figured that we started out
as a duo, we can go on as a duo. Now that I have become a father I must
say that it is the perfect format for the time being.
6. Can you describe to us your musical direction?
Patrik: We want to stay true to the Anachronaeon
concept. That means that we are free to mix any styles of metal(don't worry,
no NU metal here!) into a blended Anachronaeon-style. Right now I feel
that we are going in a slightly harder direction, but we're not letting
go of the moods and melodies that is our trademarks. I don't have a plan
when I write music, it comes by itself and where I am at in life.
7. Through all these years, haven’t you had
an offer from a label?
Patrik: Usually I would say no, but this time
I can say YES! Stygian Crypt Production will probably release "As the last
human spot in me dies" in the beginning of 2007. We feel that it is a good
offer, partly because the label seems serious, and partly because Russia
is a good market for us.
8. Do you have any other projects besides Anachronaeon?
Patrik: We used to have Eyecult, but we dropped
that one. We figured that we can incorporate those influences into Anachronaeon,
which we did on "The New Dawn" I think.
9. Thank you for your time! Close the interview
as you want.
Patrik: Keep checking our homepage (www.anachronaeon.com)
