Aeon Of Fear
When a band doesn’t find a suitable label in order to release their very good album, what must they do? They release their album as a self financed CD and try to promote it as much as they can. For the rest you have to read the conversation we had with Christopher from Aeon Of Fear.

1. Since this is our first interview with you, can you tell us in short the history of Aeon of Fear?
In summer 2000 Aeon Of Fear starts with their first steps, but only with guitar and bass. It took a lot of months to find a drummer having enough time for Aeon of Fear. At the same time we start working with the keys. But now we were in need of an own rehearsal room and a lot of time.
Both could be found in the year 2002 and now we started with a new bassist and a voice. The recordings to our debut album "be afraid of your reality" took place from december of 2004 to february 2005. From this time on we are trying to get more known in the underground.
2. Why did you choose to use this name? Is there a story behind it?
Our name was chosen by our first bassist, Mike, before there were any lyrics for our songs. But even in the first lyrics written by Sebastian the subject were often different kinds of fear. So the name "Aeon of Fear" was getting legitimation for our band.
3. Can you give us some details from the recording sessions of your debut album?
Since we didn´t have enough money to finance a very long recording session we were forced to buy the appropriate equipment to record ourselves. Our child was named "Obscure Infinity Studio" and now we began recording our album. Of course some days we were under stress and sometimes we had to avoid each other.
But after all we are looking hopefully to our next recording session. Aim is to make some things better and keep more calm.
4. How are the reactions of the press so far?
Until now, only one review has brought about the feeling that its text was not authored faster than our first two songs last. Because of our partly difficult songs and our individual kind of music we were expecting much worse reviews. But now even from foreign countries we get very good feedbacks.
5. You are from a country famous for its metal scene. Do you believe that this can push and help you a little bit?
If you make a concert in Germany you´ll get the opinion, there are playing bands for each other. The German Metal scene is overcrowded with too many bands. In Germany there is surely the biggest Metal scene in the world. But it could be very hard to get some underground appearance if your home country isn´t Norway or Sweden. Many event managers even don´t answer to our cd-packages and inquiries. Often they let bands give their shows in contests to let them play against each other, without keeping an eye on the artistic aspect. On the other hand the level of band-quality is rising, bands stepping on German stages get better every year. But this aspect isn´t appreciated by the German Metal fans. I don´t know if this is good or bad for us and the German Metal scene.
6. Tell me a few things about the lyrics.
Our lyrics sometimes develop over months and there´s no relation to each other, because they mature from different positions of life. The first lyrics I authored in that time, when Aeon of Fear did not have a singer. Martin of course reinterprets my lyrics because he wants to express his own sentiments. This is the reason why the new lyrics were written by himself. In spite of our hard music we want our lyrics to be hard to please. There is no special theme in spite of "fear" and we try to avoid religious or political statements.
7. Now are you satisfied with the result of your album?
I think, we all have the opinion, that you must not be satisfied with the result of your album at all. Of course we were very lucky to bring it to an end and hold it in our hands, but very fast our few went in the direction of future. Immediately we thought about new songs. But in any case we try to bring "be afraid of your reality" closer to our audience and we identify with the album we have created.
8. Any plans in order to support your latest release?
Of course we would be glad about a deal with a label, but we don´t have this status at this time. That´s why we try to promote our album without an expenditure of high cost. But this isn´t very easy. Now we have the possibility to give "be afraid of your reality" to a distribution service, so it will be available in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Of course we don´t give up hope for a really good deal with a label. Certainly other bands we know are a warning examples to us, because there are always considerable problems with their labels.
9. Your wildest dream about the future of your band?
I can only answer this question for myself, but I think, a tour through Asia would be a wild but nice dream. But I imagine, only three weeks with Aeon Of Fear in a nightliner could be very wild. It would be an experience I would be glad of.
10. If someone hasn't heard your music, describe it to him in order to get a picture of your stuff.
We want our songs to be realized between death- and black metal, although our reviewers understand our music as pure blackmetal. The music of Aeon is able to be very playful but on the other hand very brutal and dark, but it is never depressive. We are always anxious to give our songs a certain demand. I think, the album must be heard several times before you are able to refer the music to our band.
11. Tell me your influences as a band.
Our roots are situated in very different directions. We are influenced by new music we hear constantly. But our impressions are changing faster than writing new songs and that´s the base for own songs and own sound. Very often we are surprised at the review-comparisons of our band with others, most bands we don’t hear at all.
