Adramelch
Adramelch is a well known
band in the underground metal scene and they come from Italy. After so
many years they released their second album and believe me it is a blast!
A perfect mix of progressive music with epic elements. Recently we had
the chance to speak with Vittorio (singer) of Adramelch, so read the interesting
things that he told us.
1. So Vittorio, after 17 years if I am
not mistaken, you strike back with your second album. What did Adramelch
do these years?
Well the 2 survived Adramelch (Gianluca &
me) tried, together with a third one (Franco) to rebuilt the band in various
times... in many ways... but the right time, the good conditions came just
during 2003, spring 2003 when Gianluca asked me to write the lyrics for
the "new" songs.... and between spring and summer of that year the
project came real... on the fall we found the new members... Sig first
of all and then Andrea -as a session member- helped us... and Davide (on
keyb)... Things changed again... Davide left the band and in a few months
we were again a trio! Gianluca Sig and me! (cos Franco and Andrea were
gone). We had to wait the end of 2004 to reach the current line up! But
we are sooo satisfied with the new guys! It was worth it indeed!
2. So all these years what did you do
in the music scene?
WELLL… Many different things... In chronological
order I’ll tell about the most considerable... in 1989 I sung as a special
guest on the demo of a Milano Area Metal band called ANATHEMA titled “Salem
Lunacy”: the guitar player was Fabio Troiani! In that period I sung in
a prog rock band called ENTER. I had been called by their new bass player:
Franco Avalli! (Lorenzo Deho –today Time Machine- had just left the band)
and we produced an amazing 6 tracks demo... then I formed a Jazz rock project
called COLUMBUS' EGG and we recorded an LP titled Scramblin' and during
these years as I told you I met Gianluca and Franco to try again... ZEPHIRO
was one of the attempts...
3. So your new album has the title "Broken
History". Give me some details from the recording sessions.
Well... our label proposed us to use the famous
New Sin Studio and... We had no doubt! The fame of that place and of the
man behind (Luigi Stefanini) was so good that we couldn't propose any alternative,
and the result is “under” your ears! It sounds damn good! I also wanted
to call 4 friends of mine -singers- to have a choir in some of the song
that needed it... I knew them because of my participation to the musical
Jesus Christ Superstar in a very small part... and I love the sound we
got. I think that the CD keeps the "alive" feeling... it is very well but
not over produced!
4. Tell me some things about the cover
of your album.
It's a Gianluca's drawing; you know he is
a painter! He is the only one that lives completely in the ART! I like
it very much; it's striking, mysterious and evoking!
5. "Broken History" is a concept album;
can you inform us with some more details on the concept?
The cover is strictly tied to this concept...
since the concept is about crusades... It was a hard work indeed but I
am really satisfied with the final result... I chose the crusades because
of many reasons... the first was that it was the time when the faith was
definitively changed into a power instrument to lead the people... It had
lost its transcendence to become terrifying material and political! Then
because history is always told in a very particular way... the glass used
to tell it is often deformed! The truth is far from what we are used to
listen or to read on our books... And last but not least the Holy and pure
knight is such a cliché in Metal... that I couldn't resist to tell
about him... in a rather upsetting way!
6. So far the reviews for your “come back”
album are more than great. How do you feel about it? Did you expect such
responses?
Hard question my friend! We are MORE THAN
HAPPY with the wonderful reviews we have received up to now... we were
sure that with a first album like “Irae Melanox” everybody was going to
say that... “Irae Melanox was the true Adramelch music and this second
one is tooo... strange! It also contains a ballad!!!” but it wasn't! Seems
like everyone's satisfied with BH! Adramelch, the old Adramelch fans...
and also the many new comers that never listened to IM! And we are soooooo
happy of that! the only problem is that it is so hard to promote the CD...
our label is small and it can't help us... and -of course- we have no manager...
we are doing our best but it's hard indeed!!!
7. Since you mentioned “Irae Melanox”, I have
to say that it was really hard for me too, to find it and I just have a
burned copy. Have you got any thoughts to re-release it?
Our new label just bought its rights! And
so, sooner or later it should come! But I heard about a Greek Pirate (that
came after the German pirate) that bootlegged it!!!
8. Are you satisfied with the help from Underground
Symphony?
Sure, Maurizio is a true loyal man! He did
all what he promised... He always told us that he had no way to help us
with neither live shows nor great promotion... surely... a little help
to grow should be welcomed! Otherwise how will we reach the great other
metal lands? Greece, Japan, Usa, Eastern Europe... Internet is not enough!
9. After the release date of "Broken
History" have you played any live show?
We played at the Italian 80s metal festival
in October together with Skanners and other great bands, we will play in
Curno (next to Milano) on the 18th of this month and in Germany: Wuerzburg
where we’ll play together with the Greek Battleroar and Airged L’ahm and
Kaiserslautern with Murder she wrote and Ivory Night) 13th and 14th of
next January...
10. If your music was an emotion what would
it be?
…another hard question! But nice indeed… Well
I’d say a something like a melancholic and lyrical rage!
11. What do you listen to lately?
As always a bit of everything… from metal
(Opeth, Anathema, Disillusion, Into Eternity, Orphaned Land, Porcupine
Tree, King’s X, Flower Kings…) to Jazz, passing through ethnic from various
parts of the world and classical-baroque also!
12. Do you believe that you have become
a “cult” metal band?
I’m not the right person to answer to that
question… But it really seems true! This is the most common definition
I found about us and I think it’s correct… We have our fans definitely
fallen in love with our music 17 or 15 or 10 years ago… and all the ones
we spoke with or we read from are so happy with our come back. What we
really hope now is to conquer new fans, to widen our ray of action!
13. Tell me your future plans...
Hehe… Widen our ray of action! And grow as
a band, musically speaking! We have already begun to work on the new songs…
we are not in a hurry but we can’t resist! Gianluca has already written
various songs and we are working on them to prepare our next CD that will
surely come sooner than… 17 years?
