What should I do if I have lost a pet?

1)Call your local Animal Control/Shelter. If you don't know who your animal control is, contact your local police department.

2)Fill out a lost report. Visit local animal shelters in the area, especially if you live on the border of another town. It's also helpful if you create a flyer.

3)Contact local vets in your neighborhood. People will sometimes bring an animal they found to a vet rather then a shelter.

4)Put up flyers in your local pet store and supermarket. If someone has found your pet, they are more likely to see that someone is looking for it, rather than thinking they just found a stray. TIP: Always leave one detail of a distinguishing marking, scar, etc. off your flyer. This allows you to confirm through questioning, that someone has actually found your missing pet.

5)Use internet resources.
Petfinder has classified ads were you can post an ad for your missing pet free of charge. You can also search through their found animal listings. Here are more sites:
