FAQ's
Who are we?
We are a municipal animal shelter located in Paramus. We provide animal control to the Borough of Paramus and the Borough of Maywood only.
We do not accept animals from other towns or owner surrendered animals under any circumstances.

How can we contact someone at Animal Control or the Animal Shelter?
We can be reached at (201)649-0710. We can also be reached by email at [email protected]. Please allow up to 2 business days to receive a response by email.

Do you have a volunteer program?
No. At the present time, we do not have a volunteer program.

What is your adoption policy
?
We do not do same day adoptions
. Potential applicants may meet the animals without filling out an application. If you are interested in adopting an animal, you must complete an application. Applications are screened (normally it takes 2-3 business days), and if approved, you may come back in to adopt. Please note that we reserve the right to reject any and all applications. Potential adopters must be 21 years of age or older and have a valid driver's license. If you lease or rent, you must have proof that your landlord allows you to have an animal. Once you are notified about the approval of your application, you must complete the adoption within 5 days (unless other arrangements have been made). If an animal is not picked up during this time frame, we will move onto the next applicant. If you are still interested after the 5 days you will have to reapply to be reconsidered. Please note that we do this so that our animals can go home as soon as possible to their new family, and so we may have available space for any incoming animals. Thank you for your understanding.

My animal has been picked up by animal control. What is your reclaim policy?

Our reclaim policy is as follows: The
owner of the animal must reclaim their animal. Owner must provide proof of ownership (vet bill, rabies certificate, etc.) and a valid driver's license at time of reclaim. The animal must have a current license. If the animal is not currently licensed or the license has expired, the owner must obtain a current license prior to reclaiming the animal. Owner must pay the impound fee at time of reclaim. No exceptions will be made. Check or money orders made out to the Borough of Paramus are accepted. We also accept cash payments, but please be aware that we can't make change. We do not accept credit or debit cards. Receipt for reclaim will be given at the time of reclaim..

When can I see the animals
?
Our animals can be seen during our visiting hours which are Monday through Friday 9:00am-7:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm. We recommend calling in advance to make sure there is someone there to assist you. We are closed on
all federally observed holidays.

What care do you provide for your animals
?
All of our animals (except the furry little critters) are spayed or neutered
before they leave our shelter. Cats and dogs are provided with rabies/distemper shots. Cats are tested for feline leukemia, and AIDS.

Where can I obtain a license for my dog or cat?

Licenses can
only be obtained at Borough Hall during regular business hours (M-F 8:30-4:30). You must bring proof that your animal has a current rabies shot with you.
