Formed in 2000 and was first initiated
by Andri who was still with his band (Today’s Struggle) invited Boank, a
classmate and Friend’s of P’s drummer along with Pettie also from
Friend’s of P to form a band who was first named Benedict. Started as a
session band they usually played Weezer and The Rentals tunes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On early 2001, they teamed up with Wilman to complete Benedict’s formation. So, back then the formation were Andri – Lead Guitar, Wilman – Vocal & Rhythm Guitar, Pettie – Bass & Vocal and Boank – Drums. They performed in several undergrounds music gigs. Wilman decided to leave the band and joined another band called Lulu on the same year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back to the first initial formation, the three of them teamed up with Oppie who was Dirty’s former drummer. They decided to re-named their band and adopt a new name, Devotion with a new formation. Andri – Lead Guitar, Sampling & Keyboard, Boank – Rhythm Guitar, Pettie – Vocal & Bass, Oppie – Drums. Devotion recorded their first demo tape in September 2001 (“Selalu Ada” & “Damai yang Sementara”) in LakkyStar Studio, Kayu Putih. Jakarta. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During the year 2001, Devotion has been playin’ as featuring band on underground music gigs such as in Gueni Station Café and Nirvana Café. United because of their passions for a same band Weezer, besides playing their own music’s they’re still playing some of Weezer’s songs on stage. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wilman returned to Devotion on early 2002 and become the bass player. Devotion then starts to record their songs in Andri’s Home Studio whereas all the music arrangements and lyrics of their song were created together. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unfortunately, during the middle of 2002, Oppie decided to resign from the band. This doesn’t stop Devotion from creating and recording new songs although they have to use loop drum. Boy, who was former Jellyfish’s drummer joined Devotion to fill the spot Oppie had left on September 2002 after a jam session at Warung Sirkuit, Jakarta. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On October 2002, Devotion became a freaturing band on “Star to Star”, which is a weekly off air live music event held by Prambors Radio at Parkir Timur Senayan, Jakarta. Devotion’s song started to play on Prambor’s Chart Show “NuBuzz” on the following month and was on the number 3 position of the chart after 7 weeks on the row. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By the end of 2002, Devotion was one of the guest star band on the show “In The Garage Music Party – A Tribute to Weezer” held by the online #weezerian community in Nirvana Café, Jakarta. This event was reported on the front page of Weezer official web site weezer.com. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All personnel of Devotion are currently working. Therefore, between their “working days” and practice schedule, Devotion remains to record their demo tape in Andri’s @world–X Home Studio. |
