Maria Emilia is a young orphan who lives with her
grandmother Josefina and her siblings Augusto (Gucho) and Monica, in a poor
neighbourhood of the capital city, after having lost their money and
social status. Josefina does not resign herself to live under this conditions and foments the same
pride and ambition in her grandchildren. While Mónica and Gucho choose to find easy ways to
obtain money, Maria Emilia struggles to support her family with her work, being misunderstood by
everyone. Maria Emilia who is not looking for economic wealth but rather the happniess that true
love would bring her, meets Alejandro a young playboy, son of a rich man who is used to get
everything he wants. At the beginning, Alejandro will try to take advantage of Maria Emilia, but
since she refuses to get caught in his seduction game. It is him who gets enchanted by her.
Their love affair doesn't find obstacles until an old love returns to Alejandro\'s life: Marcia. She is
determined to get back with Alejandro and when she realizes that he has completely forgotten about
her; she becomes Maria Emilia\'s worst enemy. Monica, on the other hand is having an affair with
Alejandro's father, Francisco, and they both will interfere in Maria Emilia and Alejandro's romance
so that their own affair is never discovered.
