Natalia Sandoval is a lovely seventeen-year-old whose rebellious nature is always getting her into trouble. When her mother passed away, her father Santiago Sandoval, a succesful engineer, inmersed himself in his work and began to neglect his two daughters, Natalia and Beatriz. Santiago meets Ruth Quintana, who although 20 years younger than he, manages to win his heart and become his wife. Her mother Doris and her brother Ivan are a pair of opportunists who plan to take advantage of the situation to live royally at Santiago's expense. Dona Esther, Santiago's mother, realizes the kind of people they are and cannot bear to be near them.

Natalia lives in a high class boarding school for young ladies run by Clemencia Castanon. This cruel and greedy spinster takes pleasure in meting out excessively harsh and usually undeserved punishments for her students under the guise of maintaining discipline and preserving the school's good name. Also, what nobody knows is that she and her nephew Alejo have been tampering with the books and pocketing the money.

When psychologist Enrique Gallardo joins the academic staff, Clemencia is forced to put up with him because he comes highly recommended by Alonso Ruelas, Santiago's business partner. But his presence is a constant threat to her because she fears he will expose for fraud, and for mistreating the young girls. Enrique persuades Natalia and her classmates to form a dance group to participate in the intercollegiate competition, which is held in Mexico each year. Through this shared experience, the young girls will learn the true value of friendship and team work, and Natalia and Enrique will gradually come to realize the meaning if true love...
