STAR LING

Star Ling O star ling my darling
Come hear without fear
Perch on my youth and sing
A sad song of lovers longings,
Longings.

Let me with fiery eyes
Admire and desire thy beauty
Lovely thy form of love so warm
Curved brown speckled breast
Light elegant wings to fly
Westerly in jolly and jest
To lovers sweet, sweet nest.

The beak that plucks a worm
From the ancient sanctuary grounds
Will sing, will rejoice, will surround
The green wooded valley with
A wondrous gift of sound.

Found wounded in a winters snow
Kept, fed, loved, adored,
Healed the broken leg with a splinter
And now you must go and sing to another.

Go, go star ling O star ling
Go fly away my little darling.
Departing,
I kiss the wind on which you fly.

Star Ling O star ling
My loves been flung
Darling O darling
Before a new morning
My body will be hung.
