CANAL CONTENTMENTThoughtpictures swirl
Into the open door of mind
Come, enter and follow
Tracing memorys steps through timeUnable to find my way
I cry out
"The unimportant is best forgotten"
When said words comeStreaming silver over threshold
The sun caked goldeny sits
In the leafy touchless trees
Along canal wakeningTo the fresh green waters
Morning rippling
Flashing thoughtsIt matters little
When youre singing
Over lockgates waters tumbling
Idling on a bench
Which commemorates
The poet Patrick KavanaghBut let me praise
In my own joyous way
Leaves mutely falling
And name a season
For colours to returnBuds blossoming
As sparrows squabble
Over crumbs
While I merge
With the waters translucencyMirroring my soul
She whispers
"Let time die awhile
Be at Peace
My solemn little child."Dublin 83.
