So Col. Thierry, Gen. Stroessner and Dr. Insfran led the bloody restoration of militarism, as a neomilitarism, a poor imitation of the one developed by fascism in Europe. (21) The political ideal in Paraguay is strongly identified with the religious faith, exemplified on the word 'correligionario' -coreligionist- which has an almost exclusive use in politics, among adherents of the same party. Therefore it makes sense for us to speak of political heresy the same as we do with religious heresy. Consequently, it's also correct to call the Guion-Stronismo a political heresy to Coloradismo. The Guion-Stronista heresy then by providing a political base, helped crucially in the reestablishment of the pre 1947 regime in its North American-Brazilian version. In this manner, the failed coup against Coloradismo on Jan 11, 1947, succeeded on Dec. 21, 1955, conducted precisely by one of the former conspirators: Stroessner, originally a 'War Front' member. According to the preceding analysis on the paraguayan past developments, either for a correct and a realistic national evaluation or for the planning of our future strategy, the following points should be taken into account: 1) The negative and disturbing effects of neocolonialism. 2) The revolutionary state still open in our country since the February 17, 1936s, popular and nationalistic revolution was prematurely aborted in Aug. '37. 3) The 1947s civil war which made visible the innermost Colorados' obligated role in resuming such process to its conclusion and ... the negative outcome of violence. The 'internationalist' Liberal-Febrerista-Comunista backed military revolt which was trying to interrupt again our attempt -reinitiated on June 9, 1946- to create the conditions for a new social order, was overwhelmingly defeated by the paraguayans. 4) The December 21, 1955s putsch led by Stroessner against Coloradismo, breaking its unity on the verge of our country's democratic normalization. 5) February 3, 1989, which signals the beginning of our comeback as a respond to the stronista betrayal and what's more, the demolition of the 'War Front' on another much stronger June 9, 1946. 6) March 28, 1999, a new setback, masterminded by the residues of the stronista political team.. As a paraguayan, son -and disciple- of legendary Epifanio Mendez Fleitas, I'm compelled to deliver this message to you northamerican people and the international community. Since the outbreak of stronismo on Dec. 21, 1955, my entire family and myself either have had to remain in internal estrangement or go into exile to escape with our lives. Due to the pressure from Paraguay in 1978/79 my father and myself, respectively, also had to leave Argentina coming to the United States under the Hemispheric Parole Program for refugees during the compassionate Carter Administration, a revival of the Roosevelt's and the Kennedy's spirit. The world in general, and particularly our Latin America, increasingly demand that we call things and facts by their rightful names, dropping for ever the illfated euphemism and distortion. |
