| 31 The brazilian representative L. Carneiro from the Parliamentary Commision on Drugs said that paraguayans legislators 'investigating' Gen. Oviedo, did little to move forward in the case. So far there's no evidence that could help the justice against the ex Paraguayan Army Commander. (ABC Color Asuncion Nov. 21, 2000) The accusation before the brasilian Investigative Parliamentary Commision on Drugs (CPI) against Lino Oviedo as the head of a drug & weapons' cartel is based only on opinions of paraguayan legislators clearly opposed to him. ... the 25 pages on Oviedo, don't have the documentary support for such a accusation. The CPI admitted that the report is also based on CIA & DEA accounts. The suggestive fact is that the paraguayan Parliament Commision on Drugs gave those reports to the brazilians and not to the paraguayan Justice so as to prevent Oviedo from being sent back to Paraguay. (ABC Color Asuncion Dec. 9, 2000) Here's just one of the many writings on 'the internal enemy': the Editorial by Noticias, one of the friendly medias to the neocolonial status. (Noticias, Asuncion April 28, 2001) 32 Proofs are needed to catch the masterminds of Argana's shooting. -Before Argana's death, the Wasmosy-Argana personal alliance, was just circunstantial because of their common enemy: Oviedo. Either Cubas' government -overcoming the impeachment trial- or Argana becoming President wouda wiped out Wasmosy. Wasmosy and his group -by far- were the most benefitted with Argana's death and Cubas-Oviedo fall, thereby ironically also consolidating the wasmo-arganista group. -To investigators, Arganismo (without Argana) as a political group composing the present government (Executive, Legislative & Judiciary) appears equally as a clear suspect. Gonzalez Macchi, Bader Rachid Licchi, Planas, Galaverna, Villamayor, Duarte Frutos ... came to power for free as a direct consequence of 'their leader death'. Argana's death was also a 'justification' to persecute (like in the Cold War) 'evil' Oviedismo, actually majority colorado movement which in fact -starting from the top: Gen. Oviedo- includes most of the civilian-military protagonists to overthrow Stronismo in February '89. (ABC Color Asuncion Nov. 27, 2000) 'Many live on Argana's death' says one of them: Nicanor Duarte Frutos. "The 'paraguayan march' (euphemistically socalled the parliamentary coup) is an open wound which divided again the national soul", he says. Duarte Frutos must know enough about its preparation for having been one of the accomplices to overthrow the legitimate government. (ABC Color Asuncion Nov. 28, 2000) Referring to Argana's case, Gen. Lino Oviedo imprissoned in Brasil said that: "there were created false witnesses (like G. Aguilar) to implicate inocents but contraries to the ruling group" in Paraguay. "The imprissoned military officers: Capt. Emiliano Ruiz Diaz -for Gen. Rosa Rodriguez assassination- had a brive attempt to implicate me in drugtrafficking; same as Maj. Reinaldo Servin -on Argana's case- to name me as the mastermind on Argana's shooting". Also Oviedo said that he doesn't have his life secured and like in the FarWest, the usurpers of power in Paraguay had put a reward on his capture. (ABC Color Asuncion Dec. 7, 2000) 33 Belief vs Evidence The evidences show today that 'the Plaza massacre' wasn't done by the falling Cubas' government -as the official account says- but was just the last step of a Coup d' Etat coldly calculated, carried out without a bit of shame and with the complicity of foreign powers ... (La Nacion Asuncion Dec. 4, 2000) During the massacre, the Police was in the hands of Oviedo's foes. [...] the Police was already under a open Oviedo's enemy: Capt. Carlos A. Cubas and a military officer Caballero Camacho [...] (ABC Color Asuncion Nov. 30, 2000) "L. Alfieri, along with Walter Bower and Cia. were in the Congress building carring powerful weapons during the Plaza massacre on March 26, 1999 ... My friend Derlis Turlan (32) was shot in his chest while heading to the Congress". Statement of Pablo R. Riveros Caballero (33) one of the youngsters who helped bring down President Cubas. "There were shootings from the Congress building..." says Fernando Ayala, another youngster from 'Alive memory' (Memoria viva), socalled euphemistically the group of youngsters used to overthrow the elected government. Military officers from Cerrito-Chaco, admitted that they were manipulated. The Commander of the Military Instruction Center on Special Operations Col. Ruben Zacarias Medina revealed yesterday that they were used for the socalled 'paraguayan march' in march '99 and for the past May 18 'coup attempt'. (ABC Color Asuncion Dec. 7, 2000) |
