Beauty Is in the Flaws
By Jon Forsythe
An image forms on a silver plate
A figure I do recognize
Through the looking glass I do stare
Why am I ready to criticize?
Myopic eyes
Shortened toes
Split-end hair
Crooked nose
Imperfections multiply
Staring me in the face
Perfectionism is the white rabbit
That I do often chase
Twisted leg
Chapped lips
Off-white teeth
Bony hips
Madison avenue TV ads
Supermodels with airbrushed skin
Programmed to find defect
Taught that being flawed is a sin
Oily face
Largish ears
Flabby thighs
Saline tears
The imperfections start to blend
Shrink, fade, and disappear
Destructive thoughts begin to leave
"I am beautiful," I start to hear
Slouched shoulders
Dimpled chin
Chipped nails
Nervous grin
Beauty is in the flaws
Beauty is here, beauty is there
"I am beautiful," I start to believe
Beauty is everywhere
Oily face
Shortened toes
Split-end hair
Crooked nose
I am one of the beautiful people
Twisted leg
Chapped lips
Off-white teeth
Bony hips
I am one of the beautiful people
Slouched shoulders
Flabby thighs
Chipped nails
Myopic eyes
Beauty is in the flaws
And now there's beauty everywhere
From the tip of my shortened toes
To the ends of my split-end hair
Largish ears
Dimpled chin
Callous heels
Sexy grin
An image forms on a silver plate
A figure I do recognize
But now I see I'm beautiful
Even with these myopic eyes
