African Bongos!
The base is made of a very hard plaster type material.
(I'm not sure what it is actually!)
These are made with the hyde of real animal skins which are stretched over the top with the lacings running all the way donw the sides. y stretches over the sides and laces all around each of the bongos all the way down to the bottom.
There is a bridge (shown above)
that connects them at the top and bottom
on both sides
