| Educational Help for Katutubo tribes | |||||||||||
| Last year, Paradise SDA Church started a program of educating the members of one of the indiginous tribes here in the Philippines. The Dumagats as they are called, live in the mountainous regions of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. They live in nipa huts made of bamboo and grass roofs. Their main food consists of rice, casava, banana, papaya, and other fruits. Once in a while, they visit the urban areas where they buy canned sardines, dried fish, and some ingredients for cooking. They have close family ties where one house consist of three to five families. The Katutubo have their own way of living and education is the key that they become civilized. Older members of the tribes are already aware of the need for education thats why they are open for any group that will extend help to them. Paradise SDA church saw this opening and started a group education in their village. Because of the remote place, the church is having a hard time maintaining a volunteer teacher there. The church decided to bring the children who are really willing to learn to live in adventist families around paradise church and enroll to schools here. We have started adopting Dumagat children this year. We have a total of 4 children who started studying last June and entered school as grade one. While some dumagat students are still being taught in their villages, the four students who decided to live with adventist families have have been accelerated to grades 4 and 5. The church is planning to enroll 10 more students next year and with the help of friends abroad this dream will become a reality. Hope you will pray for these souls to learn more of God as they study with adventist families. |
