| Be a "Mystery Reader" for our class. This is a wonderful way to demonstrate how important and fun reading can be. Simply, select a day when you can spend about fifteen minutes with our class. Let me know the date that is most convenient for your schedule, we will then set us a time for you to read to the class. Select a book that your child enjoys. It may be a book that they ask you to read over and over again, or a "new" story that relates to something your child finds interesting. Please make this selection without telling your child about coming to school. Half of the fun of this activity is the surprise your child experiences when they realize the YOU are our "Mystery Reader"! Bring the book to school and sign in at the office to receive a visitor's badge before coming to our room. When you come to the door, we will stop whatever we are doing and gather on the floor to listen to your story. Before you read, your child will be given the option of introducing everyone in the class to you or having the students introduce themselves. After you finish reading, your child will select 2 boys and 2 girls, who will be able to share their favorite part or ask a question. Depending on the book you select, the entire activity normally lasts about 15 minutes. The children always enjoy having a parent, or other relative, appear at the door as our "Mystery Reader" and it is a fun way for you to interact with our class. I hope each of you can find the time to participate in this activity. You can e-mail or call me at anytime throughout the year to set up a date and time that is convenient for you. |
