Vampire: The Masquerade is set in the World of Darkness series and published by White Wolf. It definitely has the reputation for being an angsty game, and that's certainly possible as vampires seemed to find themselves inherently associated with angst. But it certainly doesn't have to be that way. It's less rules-oriented than D&D, and the character-creation process is relatively easy to understand, and allows for a lot of flexibility. Unlike D&D, it's set in the modern world, giving it an urban fantasy feel.

It's the first RPG I ever learned, and because of that I have a certain fondness for it. The character I created for it is always one of my favorites: Lilith.
