Works-in-Progress Gaming Links Home | In preperation for FebNoWriMo, the challenge was to write 450 words and use the words: portion, assets, resistance, dollar, and crunched, as well as the phrase: "Though it has only been one day since, it feels like weeks have passed."
Though it has only been one day since, it feels like weeks have passed, she told him. Really, Kathryn, theres no need to be so melodramatic, David replied. Thats easy for you to say! she screamed at him. Youre not the one stuck with this! And she jabbed fiercely at her new scar. Come on, cheer up, Scott chimed in. Consider your assets. And thats even easier for you to say! You got superhuman strength, of course youre happy! And none of that marks you for every single person in the entire universe to see. She stared back into the mirror, trying to figure out how this had happened. Wincing a little, she opened her third eye again. Not even that phrase made sense. She didnt have a third eye, that wasnt supposed to be her portion, and that must mean that reality was out of joint. Granted, it was out of joint for all four of them, but that didnt really mean anything to any one else. All of them had gotten their abilities twisted in cool (albeit strange) ways. She was the only one who ended up with some sort of twisted mutation. She started crying in frustration, and noticed that her reflection in the mirror shifted in some way. She stopped crying, curious, and noticed that her reflection seemed to waver in response to her emotions. Well, that was strange. She turned, and tried looking at Scott and David with her third eye fully opened. Ewww, Kathryn, David said. Listen, Ill give you a dollar if you stop it. No, she said. First of all, it would take much more money, and second, arent you the one who said it wasnt a big deal? She kept staring at him. He was all kinds of funky colors now, and that waswhat did they mean? They didnt look like auras were supposed to, and shed never heard of anyone needing a third eye to see auras before. As she kept staring at him, his resistance crumbled, and he gave in. All right, Kathryn, you win. It is a big deal. Okay, she said, and closed the eye. The colors went away, so that meant they were coming into her brain through the eye. That didnt even make sensehad she gotten a new optical nerve too, or something? But maybe this wasnt going to make sense. It wasnt like a comic book or something, where they could just mumble pseudo-science until enough people got confused. It was here, it was now, and it was real, and it wasnt supposed to be. Do any of you guys have a hat? she finally asked. Yeah, Scott said, as he crunched rocks in his fingers. Why? So I can hide this scar. Oh. Yeah, sure, he said, and handed it to her. She put it on, and faced the mirror again. Okay, it was hidden for now. Not that solved the problem, but maybe it was some sort of help. She hoped. |
