| End of Summary SPOILERS: You have been warned |
| Papillon: As you were saying, KerMETS. KerMETS: Three ogres capture them in athe woods and are about to eat Ella until Char rides in and saves the day. He decides to escort Ella on her quest to find Lucinda. Along the way they become friends (two days ride, perhaps) . When they reach the giants Lucinda has already left. They stay for the party. Slannen meets a beautiful giantess and they become a couple. Ella and Char talk on top of a table. Someone tries to force Slannen to sing but then Ella explains that he doesn't. The giant then orders Ella to sing. ella sings and dances to "Can't anybody find me someone to love" (I believe that is the title). Char and Ella then talk all night. Ella and Slannen return to the capital with Char for his coronation and to consult the castle records for Lucinda's whereabouts. Char confides in his uncle that he plans to propose to Ella that night at the ball. Through Hattie, Prince Edgar learns of Ella's curse, and he promises that Hattie can marry Char. Prince Edgar and his snake (Heston) track Ella down and order her to murder Char at midnight and confess that she killed Char's father as well so that Edgar can be king. Ella writes to Char telling him they can't be together and has Slannen chain her to a tree so she can't obey the order. Lucinda then shows up and unchains Ella "as a favor". She unwillingly goes to the ball. Char sweeps her away and proposes. Ella resists the order to kill him and breaks the spell, but Char sees the dagger and thinks that is what she was trying to do. Ella is locked away in jail. The next day is the coronation. Prince Regent Edgar poisons the crown so Char will die when he puts it on. Ella, with the help of Slannen, two giants, and three ogres escapes and crashes the coronation. A huge fight ensues and Char realizes that Edgar is evil, not Ella. Prince Edgar, in his anger, thrusts the crown upon his own head and declares that he should be king. He passes out and is presumably dead. Ella and Char get married and the whole cast breaks into song ("Don't go breaking my heart" by Elton John). By the way, Benny turns back into a man again and everything is just peachy in Frell. Papillon: So, it's a musical? Seriously? Song and dance? KerMETS: There are two song and dance numbers. One is at the Giants party where Ella and the giants sing (she dances a lot and Char dances at the very end of the scene). The second is the ending that is a full cast and song dance. A friend of mine who went with me thought the musical numbers were over the top and I agreed (though I thought they were funny). Papillon: Please tell me the musical numbers were at least a little fun to watch. KerMETS: They were so over the top they were funny. They won't be winning any awards or giving Chicago a run for it's money but they were not awful at all. Think Shrek. Actually, the whole movie reminded me of Shrek Papillon:So there's only one ball, eh? KerMETS: Yep, just the one and Ella crashes it. The wedding scene has a choreographed dance but doesn't constitute a ball. Papillon: How are the ogres portrayed? CGI, guys in costumes, what? KerMETS: They are guys in costumes with lots of padding and extra height. They are kind of goonish. They have gray skin with bluish tints and red tattoos. They also have plumber's butt which made most of the audience laugh. Papillon: A big round of applause to KerMETS the info goddess!!! That's the end of the interview. |
