The M1 Garand was the standard issue rifle by the United States Army from 1936 until 1957 when the M14 rifle replaced it. It had an advantage over the German Mauser KAR 98s due to the fact that it held 8 rounds instead of 5, and it was semi-automatic. The Mauser KAR 98 was also a very good rifle, but in my opinion it is abysmall in comparison with the Garand.
The M1 Garand has a wood stock. The Garand fired the famous .30-06 round. This particular round was used by many other rifles during World War Two such as the BAR and the Springfield 03' sniper rifle. The Garand weighed a total of 9 pounds and 8 ounces (unloaded). The Garand had a fully adjustable i.e. windage and elevation rear sight. When the last round was fired out of the rifle, the Garand made a distinct "ping" sound. That sound is music to my ears. The M1 Garand was made famous in World War Two but was also used in the Korean War.
