In Greek Mythology, Sisyphus, the founder and king of Corinth, cheated Death three times. Every time it was his time to die, he used tricks to avoid it. Eventually, after evading death two times, he died and went to Hades, where he had to roll a boulder up a steep hill for eternity. Like this story seems to tell us, everyone dies eventually. It is the curse us mortals. But the point isnt the fact that we are destined to die, but how we will accept the reality of death. We can take it like Sisyphus, the wiliest knave on earth, or we can just accept it passively.
Death is an inevitable process that we will all have to go through. When some receive their death sentence, they would try to repent. They would stop drinking, do charity work, and basically change their lives 180 degrees. They would say that they are repenting and trying to use the rest of their lives in a beneficial way.
Though I cant say that I totally agree with this approach, I would have to say that I agree on some partial aspects. I would change my life a little, trying to be nicer to people and getting in touch with old relations, but I cant say that I would go through the 180 degree makeover. In other words, I would repent a little, but mainly live life as I am living it now.
I am proud of who I am. I cant say that Im picture perfect, but I think I try to live life to the fullest. Though there may be some bad memories in the past, its spilled milk, and I would not spend the rest of my limited life regretting it.
Death is unavoidable. The important thing isnt knowing that its unavoidable, but how willing one is to accept that fact. Sisyphus tried to cheat it; but me? I just think Ill accept it with a humble, open heart.
