Melvin Leon Allen

Melvin Leon Allen, 70, West Baden, died Saturday, May 6, 2000 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born in Orange County, he was the son of William Evertte Allen and Nellie Mae Needhammer. He married Mary Lou Trueblood on April 14, 1952 and she survives.

He was a World War II veteran. He served in the Army from 1947 to 1950.

He worked at the West Baden Hotel, Kerby's Garage, Qualkenbush Furniture & Appliance, Weaver Motors in French Lick, Weaver Motors in Paoli, and Crane Naval Weapons Support Center.

Surviving along with his wife are three children: Melva Lou McLane, Michael Leon Allen, and Mitzi Lynn Gromer, all of French Lick. One sister, Rosalee Anderson, of West Baden, and a half sister, Billie Foxx, of French Lick. Seven grandchildren: Kerry Leon McLane, Brandi Dawn Bird, Tammi Rae McLane, Jason Dale Bird, Stephanie Michelle Allen, Ashely Rene Allen, and Kendra Renee McLane, also from French Lick. Three great-grandchildren: Darian Jade Roach, Kennedy Renee' Roach, and Jonathan Micheal Rutherford, all of French Lick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, George Needhammer, and three brothers: Evertte Allen, Jr., Charles Allen and Clarence Allen.

Melvin was a 49 year member of the West Baden Springs Volunteer Fire Department and a 48 year member of the I.V.F.A (Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association).
