Rolling Stones' history
![]()
Rolling Stones is said to be one of the most famous rock 'n' roll band ever.It is the band that has influenced the most music bands after the 70's and has not stopped guiding all the contemporary music trends since then.Mick Jagger,Keith Richards and Charlie Watts, three of the main members of the band have been playing together since 1963.This is enough to realise the great importance of the band. The whole thing began when Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, who used to be old schoolmates, met on the same train.Jagger was holding some blues records ,something that was enough to attract Richards'attention, being himself possessed with the blues music. The legend had already begun .After Brian Jones,Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts joined the band ,the Stones were about to roll, playing pure blues music.
The Rolling Stones history is carved on Keith Richards' face. The wrinkles that lay on this face prove immediately that they come from a person that has dedicated his whole life to what is called "rock'n'roll.Richards' devotion to music has helped him to avoid all the dangers coming from overuses and debaucheries. With the end of the 60's,the Rolling Stones had already presented two very nice albums,"Beggars Banquet","Let It Bleed" and they were getting ready to present two other albums,"Sticky Fingers" and "Exile On Main Street" which will undoubtfully determine a whole new era and a brand-new art in what was called "rock'n'roll'.
With the beginning of the new decade and the Stones' american tour a lot of things started changing.Technology appears for the first time in live concerts something that gives Rolling Stones the chance to perform in a far more impressive way, proving for one more time that they are dominant in their job.Mick Jagger had already entered the american world of the intellectuals(Burroughs,Warhol),something that gave the band more prestige and wordwide recognition.During this decade the Rolling Stones are given the title of the gratest rock'n'roll music band ever and the whole band representation is up to Mick Jagger,as his music "twin",Keith Richards is in great trouble, having to deal with drug-dealers,justice and a big attempt to give up drugs, drinking and many other <bad> habits. From 1971 till 1974 Stones will release four albums:Sticky Fingers,Exile On Main Street,Goats Head Soup,It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, one every year respectively. In 1975 Mick Taylor will be replaced by Ronnie Wood(ex -Faces guitar player), something that gives Stones a whole new sound and image. Before the end of the 70' the Stones will release three new albums. In 1976,they release "Black And Blue",in 1978 "Some Girls" and by the end of the decade(1980) "Emotional Rescue" will be released.
In 1981, another album is released called "Tattoo You" which was the reason for one of the most successful world tour in rock's history. The Stones appear now in huge arenas, playing in front of hundred thousands of people. After the end of this tour, the view that the Stones are the greatest live rock'n'roll band in the world is fully confirmed and justified.Stones make a great deal of money and little by little they start changing their music, inserting some other music elements, which had almost nothing to do with what they used to play in the beginning.Bitter comments and bad reviews appear for the first time in such an intense and uncouth way.Rumours about the end of the Stones due to shortage of ideas and the age of the band members are often heard. But Jagger and Richards will continue producing different music, renewing in that way the band's profile, keeping up with what the majority of the audience would like to hear, being proffesionals but never forgetting their blues'n'rock roots. After the release of "Tattoo You",three other albums will follow(Undercover,Dirty Work,Steel Wheels, which will close this difficult decade for the Stones.
After nearly 30 years in existence, the Rolling Stones began the 90s with the biggest grossing international tour of all time, and ended speculation about their future by reiterating their intention of playing on indefinitely. Voodoo Lounge in 1994 was one of their finest recordings, it was both lyrically daring and musically fresh. They sounded charged up and raring to go for the 1995 USA tour. Monies taken at each gig could almost finance the national debt and confirmation (as if it were needed) that they are still the world's greatest rock band, a title that is likely to stick, even though Bill Wyman officially resigned in 1993. Riding a crest after an extraordinarily active 1995 Stripped was a dynamic semi-plugged album. Fresh sounding and energetic acoustic versions of 'Street Fighting Man', 'Wild Horses' and 'Let It Bleed' among others, emphasized just how great the Jagger/Richards songwriting team is.In 1997 they release Bridges To Babylon, which was a particularly fresh-sounding album, with Charlie Watts anchoring the whole album like never before. His drumming was not only exceptional, but it was mixed to the foreground, giving the record a much cleaner and funkier result.
