Pattern 1 ~Medieval Toque

Step 1: Cut out pieces (duh) .  You can decide whether to cut two circles to make the crown lined or not. Up to you. Only cut ONE crown piece for the poster board (underneath) cut TWO pieces of fabric to cover both sides. And cut chin strap.

Step two: Cut two batting pieces and paste to each side of poster board. While it's drying, you may want to sew the fabric for the crown together. Sew all sides EXCEPT for an opening at the end of one side. After the the batting is on the board securely, slip in sleeve.

Step3: Sew the end of the sleeve shut. Then the fun part! You have to manage to sew the sleeve ends to gather WITHOUT breaking the board! (Don't worry about the seams, they'll be covered up by the chin strap!)

Step four:  Sew lining on cap if you like. Gather the cap. Just fit it inside the the crown and when you think it's the right size, you may hot glue it inside. (this is the tricky part, so if you have to pull it all off a couple times, don't be surprised!)

Step five: Hem the chin strap if you like, then glue to the INSIDE of the crown, and around the edge.

Step 6 (optional) you may decorate the crown now if you wish.  (However it more correct to leave it plain!) Have fun!
