Gus "Gussable" Connick
The Story of Gus Connick

I don't know why Gus was so named. He comes from a large family of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, etc. all imbred.

My son was living with another family at the time. With this family, were several cats, one of which was Gus.  When Garret brought Gus home, we had just lost our favorite orange tabby. Gus was to be a replacement for our loss. When Gus came to us, he was very lonely for his family and chose not to eat.  He was dying of starvation. Finally we were able to pursuade him to eat a little tuna by hand feeding him and forcing him to eat. Soon he started eating on his own and gained his strength back.

Gus is a very insecure cat and will ask for reassurance that we love him. With a squeeky meow, his ears "bat winged", he'll look up at us and ask us for a little attention.  Once we give it to him, he's happy and goes on about his ways.

Gus has proudly brought in to Susette little thank you presents like a mouse, a bird or a lizard. Susette will thank Gus for the presnet, take it away from him, then turn the animal loose, hoping that the animal will live.  I believe that Gus has repeatedly brought Susette the same tailless lizard

Every once in a while, Gus will go "crazy" by running through the house for no apparent reason.  He'll chase the other cats, but never catch up to them. Then he settles down, and goes to sleep.  Garret tells us that some of his family would do the same. Gus is the only cat in our lot that will ask to come in the house. He'll go out the back door, go around to the front door and then dig his claws into the metal screen door and shake it until we let him in.  Then he's happy.
