| i Last weekend, Darren came up to Newcastle. Friday night, we went to Bulletproof, the indie rock night at Northumbria Uni student union, with Coraline, Hannah, Maylis, Michael, and Djam. We had a very good night: the music was allright, Coraline was drunk, Djam was hyper...We were a bit less glad when the taxi driver screwed us up on our way home. On saturday, Darren and I went shopping, but we didn't find anything interesting but some funny socks. We had a quick hot chocolate in Starbucks and then went to the cinema to watch 21 Grams. Later, we tumbled into Newcastle to find The Cluny, a pub i've wanted to go in since the beginning of the year. We struggled to find it, but it was worth it. It was really nice to find at last a congenial pub you feel comfy in. It reminded me of Les Majos, that bar in France where I spent so much time. It's quite large, the music was good, people and staff were friendly...And there was an art gallery upstairs. I had a pint, and then I found out that they do Hoegaarden, (whatever the correct spelling is), and since i haven't drunk a drop of white beer since I left France, I asked for a pint. Though, the girl poured it in one of these special glasses, and it was SO large, that i couldn't even hold it with one hand! LOL! I felt like a vicking! Pan-the-barbarian! YAWP! Then we had to come back home walking as, despite our efforts to flag a cab, not a single one stopped. We thought it was close to my place, but it was actually still quite far. And considering that the 2 pints were starting to have an effect on me, it wasn't a piece of cake for Darren to drag me along.... On sunday, Mailys, Coraline, Hannah, Darren and I, met at Haymarket Station, to go to Wild'n'wet, a water park in North Shields. We went there by metro and found it quite easily. At the beginning, i was scared not to find it again, as it is frankly in the middle of nowhere, but thankfully, Darren remembered the area quite well. Once we arrived there, we had a bad surprise as the guy told us it was 7.50. GULPS! the last time we came, Darren and I paid like 4.50!!! We checked the schedule and found out that it was only 4.50 after 6pm. Damn... We took the time to think a bit, and as anyway there wasn't a single pub around to have a drink waiting for 6pm, and that we were scared not to find any way to go back home ( the metro closed at 5pm as the staff was on strike), we decided to get in anyway. Once inside, we had a great time, trying every ride and screaming as crazy kids while going down the slides. Around 6pm, the staff opened 1 of the fast rides called "the tornado" and although I'd already done it the first time i came, I really thought I was gonna die. Coraline, as for her, bluntly closed her eyes and waited for it to end. Later, they opened "the Kamikaze" and "the Abyss", the two fastest rides of the park. Last time I did "the Abyss" but i didn't dare to do "the kamikaze" as it is a 80ft sheer drop, and Darren told me that at a point you don't touch any part of the flume anymore. This time, I tried not to think too much, and I decided to do it. Mailys, who was just before me in the queue, entered the slide and when she started sliding, I heard her shrieking loudly. It kinda put me off but Darren really wanted me to do it this time, so i just closed my eyes and jump inside that bloody pipe. OH GOD! that was really scary! At a point you just feel yourself falling, and nothing is there to hold you! The name, "Kamikaze" is quite appropriate indeed! Your instinct pushes you to put your hands against the sides of the slide to prevent you from falling, but it is so fast that you dont even have time to do it! Anyway, we tried to persuade Coraline to do it as well, but she didn't dare and i cant blame her because I felt the same the first time i came. What was funny though, was that on friday night , when she was all tipsy, not to say drunk, she kept claiming : "yeah, the kamikaze, that's easy, mate! I'll do it without any problem!" Anyway, there was no point in forcing her, but we still insisted a bit , as we just didnt want her to regret. Though, she did all the other rides, and that's already good. At the end of the day, Hannah had injured her bum cheek, Coraline her ankle, Darren his back, and my knee didn't feel that good neither....but we enjoyed it! We finally spent 20 minutes in the jacouzi to recover, and then left the place, it was around 8:30. Then, we struggled to find a bus and had to change at Wallsend and then, Hannah, Darren and I stopped in Byker (as it is closer to our place) and went to Mamma Mia, the best takaway in Byker to guzzle burgers and pizzas, whereas Mailys ands Coraline went back to their place in the city centre.Once at home, Darren had just enough time to pack and leave, and Hannah and i were so knackered that we went to bed straight away. On wednesday, I went to the city library and I rented 2 plays by J.M. Barrie , namely Dear Brutus and What Every Woman Knows, as well as a study about how the most famous children books had been created , entitled "Invention Of Childhood" by J. Wullschlager. I also popped over to the video and CD aisle, and borrowed Prospero's Book and The Draughtsman's daughter, as well as the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack. Then I went to Grainger Market and Green market to find some materials to fix my jeans as a huge hole had appeared on the bum. I found a classical red tartan fabrics that i liked and bought it, hoping that i'll find a nice student of the School f Design to sew it on.. I wandered a bit in Grainger market and I also discovered a wicked shoe shop where they do furry shoes!!! YAY! how taky! I love it too much! Yesterday, I went back to Grainger market but this time to buy some "Raclette" (a delicious french cheese...) with Coraline, and then we had a little chat in the nearby Mc Donalds.....sad, yes indeed, but so gooood! |
