As the Allied besieged the German defenses around Caen, they launched Operation Epsom to capture the area between the Odon and the Orne rivers. The initial objective of Epsom was Hill112. The hill dominates the surrounding terrain and provided a excellent observation point for the Odon and Orne valleys. The capture of Hill112 was vitial for the sucess of the breakout from Normandy. Erwin Rommel was of the opinion that "He who controls Hill 112 controls Normandy".
On the 10th of July the task of defending Hill 112 was given to the 10th SS-Panzer Divsion . The Division was formed in 1943 from mostly Hitler Youth recuits and had been in the area since being given order to counter attack the allied assults on Hill112, and Eterville on the 3rd of July.
In Panzer Front the player commands Panzer IV tanks from the 3rd Platoon of the 5th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 10th SS Panzer Regiment. The 2nd Platoon of the same company is in support around the villiage of Maltot. Squads of soldiers from the 20th SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment hold positions on the hill itself.
