PAGE UPDATED AUGUST 17, 2003 PASS THE WORD!!! WE HAVE A LEGAL RIGHT TO ORGANIZE!! ATTENTION!! MEETING Wednesday AUGUST 20, 2003 from 2pm to ? at UAW LOCAL 2317 UNION HALL 3107 Olympia Drive Lafayette, IN
HOW OPEN ARE COMMUNICATIONS: We here at VOICES believe that the idea of holding meetings where the associates can meet with senior members of management to discuss issues affecting their jobs is GREAT!! We also believe that if the lines of communications were truly open then all associates would know what is said at each meeting and that management would provide minutes of each meeting, also they would also provide an action plan to correct all problems that are brought up during these meetings. Only by making everyone aware of what is being talked about we will truly have OPEN COMMUNICATION!! Because management does not allow all associates to know what issues are discussed in each meeting, they can put a company spin on what ever they decide to let the associates know. Or they do not even have to acknowledge the issues. Everyone knows that management picks associates to attend the meeting, and many associates believe, associates are selected based on their views and then placed in a environment that will intimidate them if they express their views that differ with management. If we were to have a VOICE then we would have a reason to believe management wants to build mutual trust. Over the past few weeks we have been told that sales are up compared to last year. But this week we are met with a doom and gloom forecast. We here at VOICES see this forecast and past doom and gloom projections as a way to prepare us (the associates) that we need to take concessions. In the past management has talked about our benefits and the substantial cost to the company they pose. It seems that no matter how much associates save the company through cost cutting, increased work loads, layoffs etc. it is not enough, management wants more. Have you seen management take concessions?
