Though I have libertarian leanings, just as William Buckley does, I do not share his same sentiment on the legalization of drugs. The thing about the leagalization of drugs that bothers me is not the fact that they are harmful to the user. If someone is stupid enough to use them that is their own problem, rather I see it as an issue where the user will harm others. Someone heavily under the control of a substance is much more probable of acting out in violence against an other. This is much the same with speed limits on the road. First of all whats wrong with going 100 mph on the freeway, that action in itself does not harm anyone not even myself. However this action does significantly raise the risk of a crash, and more importrantly causing harm to another. |
