| How much federal funding does the NEA receive from the government? If you go to their main web site you would be reassured from the start that they receive a very small percentage of the budget, of coarse it doesn't say at that point the exact number. I guess they are ashamed, and afraid that people would actually see the number. Since they are required to state publicly their fiscal budget, it is there. Though, in order to find it I had to dig deep into the bowls of the site. Finaly in the safely tucked away in a huge pdf. file where I found it. The grand total was $79.5 Million. What is even more shocking is that a federal budget can be so bloated that $79.5 Million would be a very small fraction it. The problem is it gets so big because there are so many programs that "only cost a small fraction". Not only can this program be attacked by a fiscal resposibilty argument, but also on the principle of the matter. It is forcing hard working Americans to buy and support art. I have no objection to art, there are many types of art I enjoy, but does that mean everyone should be forced to buy it? It doesn't matter if the art is Madona painted in cow dung, or a Monet hay stack, I would much rather have the freedom to make my own purchases thank you very much. |
