On 30th April 2000, six steel bands from all over the UK met together in Portsmouth, England to play together.

Due to an electrical glich at the intended venue the event was moved to a school in Portsmoth thanks to Pete, from Sounds of Steel the workshop in the morning and afternoon was moved to a local school. And the evening performance was organised at the Local leisure Centre.

Toussiant Clarke had previosly visited all six bands in the few weeks building up to the performance and taught us all the song, sugar boom boom.

At the evening performance each band played three or four songs from their repertoire and at the end, all of the bands played Sugar Boom Boom together.

The bands playing at the event were Real Steel (Plymouth), Next Generation (Plymouth), Sounds of Steel (Portsmouth), Hammered Steel (Penzance), Steel Panic (Swindon), Pansands Allstars (Cambridge).
